During the course of an average game, some players can lose as much as 5 to 8 pounds. This loss is mostly water, so players are concerned about making sure they keep enough fluids in their bodies. Goalies, who make it to the bench much less often than other players (who have one-minute shifts), keep a water bottle on top of their goal. Goalies can lose as much weight as a forward or defenseman. The water bottle on top of the net has become a part of the game. Occasionally it will move when a goal is scored--this has been used more than once by replay judges and announcers to help determine whether a disputed goal should count.
Sharks' Strength and Conditioning Coach, Steve Millard,
Sharks Strength and Conditioning Coach, Steve Millard, discusses players' weight fluctuations during the year.
Media Bar 2
Some players lose more than just water. Many players will lose weight during the course of the season. In an extreme case, Sharks Captain Todd Gill went from 180 pounds to 165 pounds (82 to 74 kg) over the course of the 1996 season. Injuries to teammates and large numbers of penalty killing situations gave the Sharks' captain more than his share of ice time. Sharks Strength and Conditioning Coach Steve Millard told us that the team monitors the players weight and that, "Fifteen pounds is more significant than we like to see." They gave Gill nutritional supplements to help him keep his body weight up. Millard told us that it was typical for a player to lose 6 or 7 pounds (3 kg) in fat and lean body mass during the course of the season. So why is weight loss a concern? Apparently, losing that much weight indicates that a player is constantly having his system broken down and he is not recovering. In this situation, he is losing muscle mass and may be more susceptible to injury.
I heard Marty B say he lost 10lbs a game, water and likely because hes really really fat - PinkSock

Traded our best shot blocker by miles on Saturday. - burn
This makes absolutely no (frank)ing sense legit. I like gleason alot more than polak... leafs retained salary in the gunner deal, they buy out gleason which counts 1.3M against cap? 1.3+3.25= 4.5M, where gleasons cap hit is 4M. So if we were really making room for cap, we should of traded gunner for draft picks. Id take gleason over polak any day |

Josh Gorges situation in MTL problematic for all. MTL had deal with TOR but Gorges refused to waive modified NTC to go to TOR. Still won't.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
MTL appears to want to shed his salary/contract. Could trade him to 1 of 15 approved teams. Failing that, could put him on waivers.

It's a lot.
Read about JS Giguere dehydration issues. The guy couldn't even stand up after games at some point. That's why he drinks a special concoction with a straw nowadays. - Pecafan Fan
That must have been with the leafs... seeing 50 shots a night and all...lol |

Phan pol 25 mins each
Gardiner Reilly 20 mins each
2 marlies 15 mins each
Are you comfortable with this breakdown of minutes - MTL1
I'm really comfortable with Granberg I think he's going to do well. |

so we obtain a czech guy in polak, who cant even compete against top fighters yet alone is a 4/5 d-man and we retained salary from gunner... yet we buy out the guy who can and blocks shots and everything.... and have it now count against our cap. (frank) the leafs straight up - DougGilmour_93
Well no one fights anymore. We've been toldn1000 times. I love what shanny and nonis are doing. Finally won't have 7 of 8 dmen being left handed. |

this is Johansen the 6'3 220 lb. 21 year old centre who just scored 33 goals? he is a franchise centre. franchise centres don't get moved. and if they ever did, they would only get moved for franchise players in return. - DoubleDown

i don't see how Franson is a fit going the other way but i could be wrong. Montreal is looking hard for a top-6 winger. i could see Gorges for Lupul. Montreal gets the better player but Toronto fills a need by dealing from a strength and saves a bit of money. - DoubleDown
It would be right up there among the worst Leafs trades I can remember. |

Problem is we lost a better player than those two. Trade gunner to acquire polak so he can replace Gleason. Who replaces gunner? - burn
I think they have either the gorges deal set up or boyle or both? Still unhappy that gleason is gone, gunner was good to move but not at the expense to obtain polak in replacement of gleason when gunner could of been expended for draft picks at the same price tag, without having the buyout cap hit count against us. If we obtain gorges or boyle or both, it will be better than having gunner |

Yet we trade the guy that will fight the lucics and everyone else that is top up there, is still mobile blocks shots leadership qualities, obtain a european guy that gets poop on by the top fighters, obtained why? because he shoots right? ... if we didnt need fighters we wouldnt of signed clarkson or kept orr or mclaren |

Chris Johnston @reporterchris 4m
Per @capgeek, the impact of Tim Gleason buyout on #leafs salary cap is: $833,333 next season then $1.83M, $1.33M and $1.33M. (Avg $1.33M
Save $3m+ for this season. Handy given the lower than expected cap |

Phaneuf/Rielly -- 23 -- Maximize O zone starts
Gardiner/Polak -- 20 -- Even starts
Bottom pair -- 17 -- 60%+ D zone starts
Phaneuf/Polak -- Top pair PK
Gardiner/Phaneuf -- Top pair PP
I'd be very happy with this. |

sorry folks Kulimen is as good as gone Malkin wants him to play the wing with him in Pitt he is done in Toronto even though he was our best 2 way player on the team for the last few years. Moving Clarkson in the trade for Gorges may come back to bite us in the ass he will be much better this year guaranteed. Id send Lupal to the habs and Franson for Gorges and Prust if possible. then sign Erhoff to be Phaneufs partner at 3-3.5 million, snag Komarov at 1.5-2 for 2-3 year deal. Bolland needs to be signed but not at top line money for a 3rd line center. D'amigo , komarov and Prust would be a very good 4th line. - watty47
Please tell me you are the opening act...
