This looks (to me) to be the new Shanaplan.

Step 1: trim off all the dead branches.

Step 2: allow new branches to grow.

It probably means a grim 2014-15 season, but I'm willing to endure it.

What the hell other choice do I have?

- Atomic Wedgie

I dunno, some of those Marlies really compete hard, I see no reason why we should be worse if thats even possible, its just bottom of the line up being tinkered with so far..unless you count Gunnar as our top pairing D (u could argue)

your right, im sure Gary helped him out, dont think you should be all muscle and no fat in the NHL you need something to burn, goalies lose like 10 lbs in just water a game
- PinkSock

ummm... I think if that happened they would die? 10 lbs of water in a 2 hr period of time? Surely they would be unconscious?

I never said that. All I meant was I wonder if that influenced the pick and may influence Kadri's future. I want them to take their time with Nylander. It was just something that came to mind that would not surprise me in Leaf management had that thought pattern.

Calm yourself.

Me too.

And I want them to take their time with Kadri.

4 players from the Marlies will take up 3 million of that, actually less than that. That's 16 now.
- LeafMan

I'm not sure that they will slot 4 rookies into the lineup

so we obtain a czech guy in polak, who cant even compete against top fighters yet alone is a 4/5 d-man and we retained salary from gunner... yet we buy out the guy who can and blocks shots and everything.... and have it now count against our cap. (frank) the leafs straight up

No.

That's what F1 drivers lose during a race.

Don't mind the buyout, even though its annoying to have dead money again. But really, with the cap likely to be 73-75 in 2015, 77-78 in 2016 and ~80 in 2017 (the final year his cap is on the books) it's chump change.

I'd rather take that hit and force Carlyle into giving Rielly/Gardiner more minutes and freeing up bottom pair minutes for some of the D kids on the Marlies.

May be better than we all think... 5 of those bottom 6 spots can be taken by the kids, sign a backup at 1 million and that still leaves room to being in a 2 RW that can actually give secondary scoring and a couple more D

really? how long is a typical f1 race? I don't know, that sounds like a bit much for a hockey goalie... I could se 5 lbs, but 10? How much is 10 lbs of water?4-5 water bottles?

I read somewhere that some teams actually try to develop players on their farm teams first, and then slowly edge them into the NHL lineups.

I'll see if I can find a link....

It's the Shanaplan, I tells ya'!

During the course of an average game, some players can lose as much as 5 to 8 pounds. This loss is mostly water, so players are concerned about making sure they keep enough fluids in their bodies. Goalies, who make it to the bench much less often than other players (who have one-minute shifts), keep a water bottle on top of their goal. Goalies can lose as much weight as a forward or defenseman. The water bottle on top of the net has become a part of the game. Occasionally it will move when a goal is scored--this has been used more than once by replay judges and announcers to help determine whether a disputed goal should count.

Sharks' Strength and Conditioning Coach, Steve Millard,
Sharks Strength and Conditioning Coach, Steve Millard, discusses players' weight fluctuations during the year.

Media Bar 2
Some players lose more than just water. Many players will lose weight during the course of the season. In an extreme case, Sharks Captain Todd Gill went from 180 pounds to 165 pounds (82 to 74 kg) over the course of the 1996 season. Injuries to teammates and large numbers of penalty killing situations gave the Sharks' captain more than his share of ice time. Sharks Strength and Conditioning Coach Steve Millard told us that the team monitors the players weight and that, "Fifteen pounds is more significant than we like to see." They gave Gill nutritional supplements to help him keep his body weight up. Millard told us that it was typical for a player to lose 6 or 7 pounds (3 kg) in fat and lean body mass during the course of the season. So why is weight loss a concern? Apparently, losing that much weight indicates that a player is constantly having his system broken down and he is not recovering. In this situation, he is losing muscle mass and may be more susceptible to injury.

I heard Marty B say he lost 10lbs a game, water and likely because hes really really fat

1.33 mil in dead cap but an open roster spot. I'm inclined to agree with you.

Agreed. Plus it's simple mathematics, lower caps this year and next versus higher in caps in the following two years. Thus, it's better to get the space now and push a small piece into the two following.

Overall, no matter how you look at it, it's a better move than sticking with him.

Problem is we lost a better player than those two. Trade gunner to acquire polak so he can replace Gleason. Who replaces gunner?

It's a lot.

Read about JS Giguere dehydration issues. The guy couldn't even stand up after games at some point. That's why he drinks a special concoction with a straw nowadays.

This would lead to the following
Phan pol 25 mins each
Gardiner Reilly 20 mins each
2 marlies 15 mins each

Are you comfortable with this breakdown of minutes

5- 8 on average just in water some more, like above, I heard Martin Broduer say he lost around 10lbs a game, likely games where he sees high volume shots
