Makes me sick how so many Canadian stars don't want to play for Canadian markets. Hockey Canada should have an unwritten rule that when a tough decision has to be made on a roster spot, i should go to the guy in a Canadian market. Just saying.. |

Not necessarily …..Phaneuf should be getting offensive opportunities with Gar/Rie. Those Xxx's would get the tough defensive assignments. - The Law

Nonis said he felt like they already had a roster guy they felt would work with Phaneuf ….it's got to be Gardiner or Rielly right?
Gar/Rie - Pha
Xxx - Xxx
Gar/Rie - Pol
Get rid of Gleason and Franson and find a pair of mobile defensive guys? - The Law
So you have Gardiner or Rielly taking top spot, and if they don't make the top spot they drop to the third pairing? |

I would also like to see the Leafs inquire on Brett Connolly from Tampa, seems to be on the outside looking in, if you can get him for relatively cheap, I'd take a flyer on him. |

I just watched about 30 min of his highlights. Great skater, and patient. Seems like he can dish better than score. |

Yup, he's very versatile too. Can play C or LW. He's the kind of player that can create something out of nothing.
He models his game around Patrick Kane, and wears 88 too. |

Players are paid in USD no matter where they play, so it's not the dollar.
Could be housing costs, gated communities in the US, peace and quiet because nobody knows who they are. |

How will they ever play against top players if you don't give them a chance and let them grow & learn... |

Yeah, when I heard that on draft night I figured someone was blowing smoke. But he does play a similar style. |

Connolly - Holland - Leivo, a young, cheap and effective line. Has potential too. But this is all moot, we forget who runs the bench. |

Salary is a wash, so none, picks not a 2nd or 4th dont think we have any till 2045. you cant have a 1st , so you can have a 5th and a good Marlies roster player |

Agreed. He should have accepted the Nashville deal IMHO. He was very well paid by the Sens and requested a trade to a smaller hockey market. No Canadian teams? Fine, but saying no to Nashville? GFY Spezza. - Not_Yan
I'm normally 100% on the side of players, but I have to say: a guy demanding a trade, and then nixing it due to his NTC is pretty douchy.
If you want out, you want out. |

Absolutely. And it will be the main reason we don't see a Canadian team win the SC in the next 20 odd years. |
