Every GM has to overpay a top UFA.
- Atomic Wedgie

And Canadian teams need to overpay more, because of the income taxes.

That was a far deal for a top UFA but Toronto was coming off a good season, Toronto is coming off an abysmal season and haven't made any changes yet. Why would Stastny want to come to this poop show?
- Mr_Smokey

Gunnar gone, Gleason gone, Kulemin gone, Raymond, Bolland, Reimer and McClement might be gone plus Franson possibly, that is a huge change.

it's going to be amazing. We're already pretty much guaranteed a 25% roster turnover, and people are still going to say that nothing's changed.

Stastny is all over the internet with those reports, Clarkson had Toronto and Edmonton wanting him, no other teams expressed solid interest.....not even his own team wanted him back at that price.
- ThePresident

Uhm no. There was 10-15 teams with solid interest. Edmonton was rumored to be giving him 6 million. There was also rumors Ottawa and another team offered more money than the leafs. Then you had 10 other teams expressing interest.

Even without Phaneuf, there could be 8 players changed not including Marlies coming up to fill spots, big turnover possibly.

All assistant coaches fired, new guy calling the shots on executive.

And that's in literally the first 2 weeks of the off-season.

But ya, not doing anything.

Bottom 6 next year will likely be completely different from last season. With at least 2 new Dmen, probably 3.

Promoting marlies is change too guys,,.

Meh, all support players.
Need to change some "leadership"

But the support players are a good place to start.
We'll see what the team looks like in august

You go ahead and do whatever simple things you do.
You know I'm right.
Phaneuf is a support piece, a 2nd or 3rd dman on a Stanley cup team.
But on a leaf team, he's the centre piece.

Hopefully it doesn't rain all day today.

And yet you still haven't answered the question.

What a surprise.

Culture change
- walshyleafsfan

That's attitude. Shanny being in charge changed culture to a degree the day it happened. Evident in the Nylander pick.

It's a long off season, this is week 2.

They kept the coach and the captain.. The 2 biggest areas where change was required.

Hey absolutely. I'm saying it is a culture change. For the better. But some people will never be happy that the Leafs management are finally starting to act on their words.

They also need realize that this was going to be accomplished in 1 off season. Type of change they want to bring will take some time, including a couple drafts, developing players from previous drafts.

By he time Rielly is the best player on this team (or2nd best to Kessel) this will be a very different team.

So keeping Dion and changing the other 22 doesn't consist of a culture change. But keeping 22 and moving Dion does? Am I reading this right? Surely I'm not?
