Exactly.

This is when that youth everyone wants to keep every year is gonna be worthy of holding on too

Everyone of these UFAs is replaceable by one or another. The main core is here signed and still in or nearing its prime. Assuming the RFA situation is not a disaster I'm really not concerned. The 4th line for instance has plentiful options out there. The new term is continuity, and I do agree it would be nice, but is continuity worth overpaying for?? I completely disagree with that. You have 82 games to establish continuity with different people.

I hope you are right and we agree to disagree here.

Interesting that the door is open for Duclair to perhaps make the team this year

If he didn't have a concussion there would have been talk of him joining the team this year after his junior season ended I think

I will fully admit I didn't want many QMJHL game sthis year but i do know that the Q is a high scoring league compared to the O or W. Just keep this in mind with this kid's numbers. Though the organization appears to be high on him so let's see what he brings!

Post draft the analysts, Craig Button/Dave Reid etc, were raving about him..I was pretty excited because I had heard about him but didn't realize how high his potential really was

My main argument was that Sather failed by not signing these players before they reached free agency. Granted, it's a give and take and not all would be back, but can you honestly say Moore or Pouliot wouldn't have signed during the season? In addition, what about the way he negotiates with his own players, as seen with Stepan and Zuccarello plus others? It's the overall package that is concerning. I agree, certain players have an overinflated sense of self and value, partly due to the SCF run, but a lot of that could have been obviated with smarter and timelier negotiating.
- airjan23

Sather does play an unorthodox tough love kinda game when it comes to negotiations for sure. As for extensions mid-season, hindsight is 20/20. Regardless, I think sather wants to lock up some depth players whos values are low right now rather than overpay 4 of our own ufas whos values have never been higher.

Wow rarely do gorton or sather talk a kid up like that and give him some hope of cracking squad. I'm psyched to see him in traverse and training camp.

If MDZ is not qualified, would any of you bring him in on a 1 year $1M deal as a 7th Dman? To me, if he had his ups and downs in another sweater we'd all be clamoring for the Rangers to take a shot with him as a 7th Dman instead of Diaz due to upside.

Id welcome mdz back with open arms, especially at that rate.

Anyone know what buchnevichs contract status is?

You see the pictures of prospect camp? For some reason, that guy just looks like he belongs in a Ranger sweater. Just hoping he isn't a Grachev or C. Thomas . Those guys were 2nd round picks that we talked about in a similar light and they fizzled out. We let those guys stay down and it didn't pan out.

I am now hoping he gets the 9 game tryout treatment. I think he is competing against Miller and Fast, he can get those 9 games and see if he earns it.

He is in the KHL, and to be honest man, I wouldn't think abotu him for another year or so. Complete afterthought for the time being.

I as well. If he comes back at that rate, knowing his role. Maybe he won't feel the pressures he did before. If I am him, I try and go elsewhere though.

And I'm not necessarily defending Sather but he actually gave all of those guys compliments in the discussion. I don't think he "called them out" exactly. Facts are facts and we can't just look at this past season to estimate the worth of these guys. They have to earn it with consistency in multiple seasons.

I was reading up on him some more today and he might be more promising than duclair if he puts it all together. You're right, he's still a year or 2 away. But I was wondering if his contract in the k was up so he could potentially come over to play in the a.

For a guy who normally never speaks to the media it was just odd of him to open his mouth on this. I am hoping he retires soon. Not because he is doing bad, but because I want Gorton to take over and if we wait any longer we are going to lose him.

We've been decently lucky with times. Their has always been a 4 oclock game this world cup and we just didn't draw that time yet.

I don't get why people bring that up with Russian players. Put yourself in his shoes and be honest with yourself. Would you do that if your him? (frank) no.

Problem with bringing MDZ back is how do you fit him. The whole point of trading him was to bring in a defenseman who was steady with a right handed shot and I think we all agree once that happened the defense was balanced like we haven't seen it in years. I just don't see how bringing MDZ back fills the role of losing Stralman. If it was J Moore gone I would love to see MDZ back.

I don't think AV liked MDZ whatsoever and I don't even consider this to be a thought

Yup, I'm hoping Av hasn't already got to that point with Miller. Kid deserves a legitimate shot.
