The Rangers need a more offensive minded dman than Fayne, which is why I'd go after Tom Gilbert who can play on the pp for probably less money. They wouldn't need another dman unless you count a 7th in maybe Diaz/Allen/Bodie. As for the 4th line I'd bring back Carcillo, see if Lindberg is ready and maybe sign an outside guy like Moss/Carter. Or put Miller on the 4th line wing for a year and grab another 3rd liner like Raymond. I'm not sold Miller is ready for 3rd line C, he dosen't have the vision or playmaking. Also, as much as I like D. Moore as a person I wouldn't sign him for 3y, maybe one more since Lindberg should be close to ready.

I looked through all the forward UFAs and here are some that are worth considering for various reasons.

Toughness/enforcer/physical/size:
Steven MacIntyre
Kevin Westgarth
Paul Bissonnette
George Parros

Sandpaper guys that can kinda play:
Zenon Konopka
Steve Downie (if his head isn't mush yet)
Jordin Tootoo (no idea if he can still play hockey)

Player with something to prove:

David Booth

Solid depth guys that could be had for cheap:
Mike Santorelli
Brian Gibbons (god what a pain in the ass he was in the Pens series)
Manny Malhotra
Jay McClement (one of the best PKers in the entire league)
Cory Conacher

Some other random guys that I don't really know much about:
Kyle Beach (we acquired him from the Hawks...likely a bust)
Brandon Yip
Jason Schroeder

There are probably a few other guys that could be worth signing but I just don't much about like Cody McCormick, Ryan Jones, Patrick Eaves, Daniel Winnick, TJ Galiardi, Matt Halischuk, Jesse Winchester, and others.

But overall, I think there a good number of solid depth players that can replace a guy like Boyle. I'm particularly interested in Jay McClement. Maybe replace Pouliot with Booth for $2M or less and see what he's got left.

Galiardi, Santorelli, Ryan Jones, Winnik are guys I wouldnt mind. A couple of yrs ago Jones had almost 20 goals, big and can play physical. This team must get bigger and nastier. Not at the expense of their speed game but mixed in throughout the lineup it needs to be added somehow.

I could see Raymond fitting in well here with his speed plus the AV connection.

as much as I like Pouliot, and I think I am probably one of his biggest fans, when you look at his production, including this past season, his point totals from his last 4 seasons:

30
32
20
36 with 10 points and 10 offensive zone penalties in the playoffs

all of a sudden this year is the first time he is going to be getting multiple year offers of 3 million a year? He has always been this guy, maybe playing in NY made people actually notice him more.

Well, pretty much anything useful will be spammed here, the Pens board, or one of the Canada teams' boards... i'll just have those tabbed open instead.

Or the EK "rumors". The 1/50 chance of being true ones

edit: forgot chicago on that list of useful info blogs.

I wouldn't be against him... but there are a few I'd take before him, hes going to be a overpriced due to the deep run you guys just had.

Also depends on if Fleury and or Martin get traded for cap reasons. Pretty sure most teams would give a pretty legit return for Martin, and the Pens would just have to bite the bullet for the first 3 months of the season waiting out those two injuries on the young D.

Oh, and of course, if ANYONE wants to take skuds off our hands for a bag of pucks. That 3+ mil cap space would be appreciated.

besides our own guys, personally I'd be happy if they can get either Dan Boyle or Ehrhoff on relatively reasonable deals.

Pouliot could end up being as productive as Dupuis has been with the Penguins I think

Just based off rumors seems like Boyle is gonna get at least 2 years @ 5 million per.
Ehrhoff seems to be the big question mark. I have no idea what or who is gonna pay him. I take it then you are fine with Miller taking over the 3rd line center spot?

I really want Dominic Moore back. And if that happens, then I am fine with Stepan, Brassard, Miller and Moore down the middle and happy to let whoever are the 3rd and 4th centers work itself out
