I wouldn't be too opposed to Carter, but he feels like a Powe/Halpern kinda plug to me rather than a Moore/Pouliot meaningful player.

TJ I bet you don't jump on Glen for this one

Pete and Glen >>> Me and you. Hate to tell ya.

- mrhattrick27

That's funny but we all have our opinions and I'll be the first that my mind changes from time to time. After watching this squad play last year I am all about the speed. Can't sacrifice that just to get bigger. We need the right mix, we need to do the things that lead to offense for us. If we can get bigger and still be a fast team then I am all for that.

Remember that 4th line vs us in the ECF? He was a total pain in the arse. He bangs will chip in some offense and stand up for guys. Perfect 4th line guy. Not sure if he kills penalties tho

Is Ryan Carter any better than Dan Carcillo though? Seem like similar player to me.

Everyone thinks I want a whole team of fat white guys.

I'm just saying infuse some fat slow white guys

I'm not bringing this up anymore because peeps hate me for it and my blood boils

- Slimtj100

I like Pouliot because he has speed. some size and will play a physical brand of hockey. I like Kreider and Zucc for the same reason. I didn't like Bickell or Penner because I thought they were not consistent enough and that too often all you had with them was their size. I like guys who can play different styles. Play with speed, show some skill and play a physical game and with Zucc as a great example, you don't always have to be 200+ pounds to do that.

Somebody said something about Glass right? I'm no math expert but I know this isn't good.

@ExtraSkater · 3m
Glass's league rank among regular skaters in relative possession, 2011-14: 419/422, 415/429, 435/435

I am not responsible for my reaction in the blog if they sign Glass

Bickell can play with speed though. Plus his playoff pedigree is very good. Penner is just a fat slob at times.

But Bickell ended up getting $4MM plus if I am not mistaken. That's where I won't go with Pouliot. I'll go to $2.5MM, maybe $2.7MM but that's it.

Bickell end up overpaid no doubt. At that time I was hopeful he was gonna be cheaper

I looked through all the forward UFAs and here are some that are worth considering for various reasons.

Toughness/enforcer/physical/size:
Steven MacIntyre
Kevin Westgarth
Paul Bissonnette
George Parros

Sandpaper guys that can kinda play:
Zenon Konopka
Steve Downie (if his head isn't mush yet)
Jordin Tootoo (no idea if he can still play hockey)

Player with something to prove:
David Booth

Solid depth guys that could be had for cheap:
Mike Santorelli
Brian Gibbons (god what a pain in the ass he was in the Pens series)
Manny Malhotra
Jay McClement (one of the best PKers in the entire league)
Cory Conacher

Some other random guys that I don't really know much about:
Kyle Beach (we acquired him from the Hawks...likely a bust)
Brandon Yip
Jason Schroeder

There are probably a few other guys that could be worth signing but I just don't much about like Cody McCormick, Ryan Jones, Patrick Eaves, Daniel Winnick, TJ Galiardi, Matt Halischuk, Jesse Winchester, and others.

But overall, I think there a good number of solid depth players that can replace a guy like Boyle. I'm particularly interested in Jay McClement. Maybe replace Pouliot with Booth for $2M or less and see what he's got left.

Carter plays center which gives him an advantage over Carcillo. Regardless, heard Rangers were trying to get D. Moore locked up which makes me happy. They need some big bodies with some forechecking abilities to play with him. Could be Carter. Could be Carcillo. Could be Fast for that matter. He has some speed and I thought he showed a willingness to play the body if he didn't always make the right play to do so.

Definitely interested in McClement and also like Ryan Jones if the scouts do. He's a big body that can put puck in the net. But he lost his ice time so could be a red flag or a team not recognizing his strengths.

I will again reiterate two names I believe we have almost no shot at but in the world of Slats and the NHL you never know. Iginla is a RH shot, a vet goal scorer and if Pouliot leaves there is a spot. He made $1.8 against last year's cap with a $4.2MM bonus that applies to this year's. That's Boston's problem now but a similar contract with less bonus could perhaps work for the Rangers and Iginla. He might be enticed by Rangers run to SCF. As a RH shot he'd help on the PP and still has good speed.

Other guy I have liked for a while is Ryan Johansen who isn't happy with Jackets offer of a bridge contract. I'd give up guys like Brassard, plus to clear cap space and try to trade for this guy to give him $5MM or more per year for eight years. I thought in 2012-2013 he was going to be a stud and only believe it more after a 33-goal campaign.

We spoke about Ryan Johansen briefly earlier today. Kid is a stud. I've always been a fan of his. Sounds like contract talks are as bad as can be, but they'll likely work it out by the time training camp comes around. Can't see them trading him, especially for a guy like Brassard who will ask for close to $5M a year.

Jackets already had Brassard so not interested in bringing him back I am sure but deal him somewhere else for other assets that can be used to pry Johansen. Pipe dream, yes. But the exact player this team needs to take it to the next level in my opinion. I would sit around and pitch proposals with my guys trying to hit on something that might work even though I know it probably won't. That's how much I like that player.

Really the only way I see the Jackets moving him to us is for Stepan. It would be a fair value deal, but just wouldn't happen. Hell of a player though. Size, skating, skill, poise, passing, finishing, hands. Complete package really.

I wouldn't mind him. Especially if the Rangers could give a contract full of bonues, just gotta make sure you don't end up like the Bruins.
