Why are we gonna overpay at a position where it has our most depth in the organization? And not address the needed spots in UFA? The only way it makes sense is if you trade staal or Moore..or even both. I'm just totally confused by this board right now |

Because Adam Oates is a relevant #1 center that has been rumored to be wanting than not wanting to be moved out of San Jose. Ad if Adam Oates were 35, a playoff failure and carried a 6.5 million dollar cap hit for 3 more years I'd stand firm and say I want no part of him. - tomburton99
Well I'm not advocating in favor of thornton, just refuting you using him as an example for someone out of his prime |

I edited my previous post to say that you could fill the fourth line with guys on entry level contracts making less than $1 million per (or cheap vets). Move Klein to the second pair. And go with a rookie on the third pair making less than $1 million. It would be very tough, however, if Brassard is still on the club. |

Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie 6m
Nice job players did capping themselves $2M below max with so many guys hitting market and so many teams with limited space.
----------
Salary cap really (frank)ing things up... only team who has a nice managed cap for next year is LA.
How the (frank)? - evitageN
It was all a part of the plan...lower the cap, force teams to use buyouts, players re-sign and bring twice the paychecks in. |

If you tell me it's either Stralman or Stastny based on being able to afford either, and we choose Stralman I will lose my marbels - Slimtj100
we should go for Eric Staal, why hasn't anyone thought of this |

Trade Brassard, that's how.
Or, go cheap on D, and fill the fourth line with kids on entry level contracts. - Pete V
Call me crazy, but I'd rather keep brassard at 4-4.5 and let the guy you sign for that extra 3 million to make up the 15 points a year that separates brassard and stastny. |

He is out of his prime. In his prime he was putting up 90-120 points seasons. |

This should be the offseason, it's the most logical:
-let Stralman Boyle and Pouliot go
-sign all RFAs and Dom Moore
-sign Dan Boyle and johansson
-let miller take pouliots spot
-sign a combo of malhotra, Winnik, carter, tanner glass type guys and/or put fast on 4th line with Moore
-sign delzotto as 7th D
That way your not locking yourself out of our prospects on D, your not overpaying or overcomitting anywhere that isn't necessary.
Someone cap geek this team for me because I can't figure it out lol

I think the good news is so many guys have entered the market that if the worst happens and Pouliot, Moore, Boyle, Stralman all leave, hopefully the team picks up a couple of guys and they can make impacts like all these guys have, and we add another couple of rookies to the mix as well.
Out of all of them, my personal hope is that Moore comes back, I just think he is such a character guy, really well liked, chemistry wise, besides what he an provide on the ice |

Hasn't had 80+ point season since 2009-10. Over his last 212 games he has scored 36 goals. Good for .17 goals per game over that span. |

Could Moore play 3rd line minutes for the whole season? That would really help

From a small town in Ontario, makes sense. Plus he's relatively cheap UFA. Eugene Melnyk's favorite. |
