So I guess you want to protest Adam Oates being in the Hall of Fame?
- AgraipVigneaurd

Because Adam Oates is a relevant #1 center that has been rumored to be wanting than not wanting to be moved out of San Jose. Ad if Adam Oates were 35, a playoff failure and carried a 6.5 million dollar cap hit for 3 more years I'd stand firm and say I want no part of him.

Certainly we all put our fan goggles on for our own guys but to be fair I think there is a bit more confidence and certainty for a current guy to continue to perform well with his team when he gets overpaid than there is for a new person to come in and do the same. This is especially the case for markets like NY where a bad start can cause the MSG boo birds to come out in force for a guy with a hefty contract.

There is also the perception play for the locker room. If guys see their teammates getting rewarded to 'keep the band together' vs the old guard's style of bringing in one hired gun after another I think it pays dividends down the road.

I personally place a $500k-$1M premium on overpaying a current player than I would a similar player from the outside. I would pay Stralman equal to Niskanen even though I think Niskanen may be a better player. I would give B Boyle $500k more than an interchangeable UFA if he were happy with his role on the team. Same for D Moore.

- Maskdman3

But either way your still overpaying for someone. It's gonna hurt in the long run just as much. At least you know Niskanen brings a dimension we don't have.

Awe what the heck: Move Nash for Weber and go all in on D. Maybe we can package Staal and every prospect we have for Karlsson and really make things fun.

Del Zotto so poised on this goal, and he scored the game winner in game 7 of that Cap series

Trade John Moore for a 2nd and 4th round pick in next year's draft. Bring back MDZ for two years $3 million.

All 3 guys that recorded a point on that goal are no longer Rangers. Think how crazy that is.

What if I told you on that day, that on that sequence, only Hags and Girardi would be Rangers 2 years later....

I don't know, I just feel like the organization has closed the Del Zotto book and isn't opening it back up

I think the best bet for defense now and in the future (assuming skjei or Allen are regulars)...is to trade staal or let Stralman go. In the meantime you sign Boyle or someone or trade for a vet cheaper with 2 years or so left til either of then are ready. The D is lacking dimensions on it and Stralman staal Girardi are all very similar players. I really think retaining Stralman at that price is a dumb idea because your blocking your own future guys to one spot in that scenario. Unless you deal Moore but he's cheaper then staal and Stralman. No one is seeing my point!!!

I think losing Stralman will hurt this blueline. He's so steady and poised, you don't really sense how good he is in general, from all of us.

Scott Burnside says Stastny will be a Ranger:

Paul Stastny, Colorado Avalanche

Stastny is the top center on the free-agent market in a summer with lots of teams looking to shore up the middle. Chicago, St. Louis and the New York Rangers are all in the hunt for that kind of help. While Stastny would like to stay in Denver (the only NHL home of his career), the Avs are going to have to up their ante significantly to keep the 28-year-old. Our guess is that he's gone and, pending what happens with Jason Spezza, who wants to be dealt out of Ottawa, we're guessing Stastny ends up a Ranger.

So you'll have McD staal Stralman Girardi Klein and Moore all locked up long term...with Allen skjei McIlrath with no where to play. That is so dumb I don't get it. Then we will be forced to trade skjei and everyone will freak out about that too

If you tell me it's either Stralman or Stastny based on being able to afford either, and we choose Stralman I will lose my marbels

Given that nobody is signed, and Slats appears to be shooting for the maximum amount of flexibility going into this UFA period, nothing would surprise me.

Trade Brassard, that's how.

Or, go cheap on D, and fill the fourth line with kids on entry level contracts.

Nice job players did capping themselves $2M below max with so many guys hitting market and so many teams with limited space.

----------

Salary cap really (frank)ing things up... only team who has a nice managed cap for next year is LA.

How the (frank)?
