Whatever, you people and your TANK crap. Good luck with that

More likely we tank then compete for a playoff spot next year.

His contract wasn't untradeable. It was simply that they felt they didn't get enough to compensate for the fact that they could be on the hook for a potential (but unlikely) $10 million cap hit in one season. Basically, Murray wanted other teams to compensate him for the mess the league put teams in with the retroactive recapture rule, nobody obliged, so he bought him out instead.

Like I said, I hope sooner or later, some player and agent sees through this, gets picked up on waivers, thus leaving a team in limbo anyway. Then the NHL could see how ridiculous this rule is.

- buffalofan19

Can't happen with LNTC because the player has the right to nix to be put on waivers. That's why Ehrhoff is simply just getting bought out and not being out on waivers.

Does it look like a tank? yep... But i think the real motive behind these moves are to be able to begin building. You have to demolish before you can build. I think murray is doing it right
- Boxer14

Unloading free agents by buyout to get worse is funny. He was here all last year and I never heard the word recapture..

NHL could step in. Circumvention and disregard for the league. It took a first from Jersey

You can't punish a team for not spending money. The only potential problem this may cause is that the Sabres may artificially inflate the market. One would think common sense would prevail, and that what the Sabres would pay is not indicative of the market. However, as we've seen, the Union doesn't always use common sense.

Mike (frank)ing Green is a joke.

I'll take Myers every day of the week, even Funday, which is like somewhere between Sunday and Monday.

I agree that risk management is essential. Guess what the Sabres JUST did this morning?

Risk management on Ehrhoff.

Myers is no risk. He's a powerful asset that Murray was floating out there to see if anyone will pay out the ass.

Oduya, Niskanen just to name a couple off hand would be a nice addition. I have to question Niskanen because if how good he was with the Pens and average with the Stars.

I've been off work for 4 weeks with a back injury and I've watched so much World Cup that I otherwise would have missed. Silver lining.

I think it's been a great tournament so far, lots of upsets/drama etc. and goals, just what you'd like in a world cup.

That would be a mistake. Give him what he's worth and that's it. Don't start doing dumb things that hurt you 5 years from now just to get to the cap floor today. Overpaying for a 32 year old for a couple seasons is one thing, but overpaying a guy for the next 5-6 is just dumb
- grand-magus

I didn't say I wanted to do that but the rumor I read the other day is Ennis wants 5.5 Million.. I think he's only worth 4 So if he's signed for 4.5 million for 3 years I'd be okay with it.. Problem is, he knows he's the best offensive player on the team currently in terms of point production and also knows how much cap space we have. His agent will use that to their advantage..

Florida did this a few years ago wonder if teams have learned from it.

Ehrhoff could have accepted waivers, been picked up by someone else on the Sabres' current contract, and Buffalo would still be on the hook for the potential recapture.

And after watching Colombia/Uruguay yesterday, there's no way the USA hangs in there. Belgium may make them look silly

Took a first for circumventing the cap, not tanking.

Short of an illegal wire tap, the league will have no legal precedence for punishing the sabres in that regard.

Tsn did a special on the lemieux tank job, if that was okay with the league then we're in the clear.

- Sabresfan-365

This league is trying to grow. Its trying to get more mainstream. Having teams in any league do this is becoming big news. They took a first from jersey. You cant have teams be an embarrassment to your league

We are a tenth into the offseason. Its a well known fact that the sabres roster would look completely different this year. I guarantee we get more wins this season than last.

Ott and Moulson would be good role models for the younger players....only reason i don't want Ott back is cuz i want that "C" on Girgs' chest ASAP
- feetontheair22

I'd like them both back for sure, quit being a selfish jerk

If they both sign here, it's quite clear they know exactly what the plan is, they're on board and ready to start. Commendable. I liked them both, I hope they both return.

It could also simply be simply because Buffalo is willing to pay them more than anyone else.

Let's say

Ennis get's 5.5 Million (Huge overpayment..)
Foligno gets 2 million (Another overpayment)
Ruwhidel gets 1.1 million (slight overpayment)
Conachar gets 1 million (don't think he should be resigned but..)

That's 9.6 Million
Still need 10.4 to get to cap.

Add Pysyk's contract and Reinhart's eventual contracts 1.87 more

now you have 8.53 to spend.. So

give Moulson 6 million and 1 or 2 other guys a million or so each and yeah I guess it could be done that way.. but I hope we have a bigger roster overhaul then that.

- bluengold12

I know we can't front load contracts but what if we signed ennis to a one year 7 or 8 mil contract then mid summer signed him to a more long term reasonable contract? Cap circumventing?

I never said for sure they were coming back just I was told they Moulson and Ott would like to come back and how comfortable Moulson and his family was here. Nothing is set in stone.

Really? I must have missed the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers tumble over each other to suck enough to get Andrew Wiggins in the NBA

League knew damn well when it introduced the salary cap that this is what it's going to look like, that's risk you take with it. You create parity (or the illusion of it) but you sacrifice a certain bit of competitiveness.

I don't understand some people. We are not tanking. If we were tanking we would have kept Regier and Rolston. Miller, Moulson and Vanek had to go because they were going to leave for nothing. This is not tank it is called a rebuild.
