Buffalo buying out Erhoff. His attractive cap hit is gonna skyrocket
- Jsaquella

why couldn't they just trade him?

Apparently, they had shopped him. Had he retired, he would've screwed over whatever team he was on.

Cap recapture penalties. If he was traded and retired with one season left Buffalo would get hit with a $10 million penalty.

The team trading for him wouldn't have been affected.

Not on a good team, just on Buffalo. He's a great #3.

Top pairing defenseman can't play for bad team?

I'm not saying he's a #1, but he and Coburn would form a good top pairing. I think Ehrhoff is similar to a younger Timonen. Maybe a little worse defensively but a better shot from the point

I wonder if Hartnell nixed a deal to Buffalo because Hartnell for Ehrhoff would have been a pretty sound trade both ways.

Does anyone think that mcGinn get his last chace with the club in camp? During his last call up he was awful when he was slotted beside couts and read. But in all his previous call ups he seemed to show some promise as a power forward. Not sayin he is first line material but if schenn is moved back to 2c I wonder how he would fit on G's line as a plantoon with raffl. If I member correctly he better very well on the top line for 2 games two years ago

Just wanted to say that I had an excellent time at the draft this weekend. It's hard to tell how much of a success it was until a few years down the road. Still a tad shocked they went with Sanheim when Kappenen and Barbashev were still sitting there but with forward depth in the draft this year, it's water under the bridge and I am ok with the pick.

I think Vinny is going to be next to impossible to move. Not so much the money but the years on his contract. I'm all for moving any of our D-men to clear space I just don't know who we can bring in to replenish them.

With Hartnell gone, it opens up a spot for a power forward. If he doesn't make the big club this season, I think he's likely gone

I doubt they had Barbashev anywhere near 17th overall. He was a second rounder.

Everything from about 15-35 was up in the air this draft. I had him pegged going very early 20's.

Erhoff isn't a top pairing guy, either.

And spelling his name right is impossible.

- Feanor

tremendous first name though. we can just call him that.

The draft is the most over hyped snoozefest on the NHL schedule and this year was no different

Not sure he fits into the mix unless they can move Streit or AMac first.

I dont know if this muddies the waters for Flyers with CE being bought out.
Sometimes you just cant make the deal and maybe its not the right time either

Already being in cap h#ll with the VL situation, July 1 and 2 are going to be very interesting.

I can see the VL to FLA or wherever happening, but its more the steps beyond that that intrigue me.

The cap movements Hexy has and will continue tomake are seeming to be like a series of stock trades to reduce long term tax burden and taking a loss in the current fiscal year to do it.

CE's availability will make potentially moving Phaneuf or Buff anywhere less likely if CE is an UFA with no assetts to give up just cash.

The more I look at this the less I think anything large happens except for the trading down the contract of VL for less burden. Maybe an incremental winger signing and dipping the toes of some of the young D in the water here and there.

Does anyone else think Comcast has intervened more deeply and gave Hexy a mandate to clean up the financial foolishness beyond what we see out here ?
As rich an organization as they are , these signings and buyouts have to drive the soul less beancounters crazy
