So here's the deal.

Sam Gagner from EDM to TB for Teddy Purcell, then from TB to ARZ for BJ Crombeen & a 6th rounder.

Oh yea true forgot Vinny makes 6 mill this year. Homer and his love for front loaded contracts
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Front loading the contract is the smart thing to do for a cash rich team.

LA did the same thing with Gaborik.

Purcell had good enough numbers but Tampa fans seem happy to get rid of him.

Now they have the cap space to take Vinny back...

Little bit nuts... they're able to re-up Callahan, add Garrison, re-sign all their key RFA's, and now still have ~$10M to play with, all while still carrying the corpse of Matty Ohlund on their payroll. Stevie Y is a ninja.

Money is all they'd have to give up. Ehrhoff is a UFA, so it'd just be a matter of what return you could get for Streit
- Jsaquella

If CE is on waivers why can't we just pick him and his contract up?

speaking of teddy purcell, why do i feel like he's a guy that's routinely torched us in recent years with the bolts? if so, i'm glad he's gone.
- hammarby31

2 seasons ago yes, this season he was pretty brutal for them

Yeah, they don't have to sign anybody to replace them either. So many NHL-ready kids in Syracuse.

He's not on waivers. He had a NMC and refused waivers, so he just became a UFA.

Lecavalier & Briere also refused waivers.

So, in summation, the Oilers traded a 24-year-old center set to make $4.4 million for Teddy Purcell; not bad.

The Lightning, who wanted to,dump, the salary, got a 6th-round pick from a team that was starving for a center -- and is eating 1/3 of the salary

Yeah, dumping the four remaining years of a 34-year-old center is gonna be easy as (frank)ing pie

Age. Gagner is bought out at 1/3, Purcell at 2/3.

Lecavalier, despite his bad season, scored more goals and had the same number of points Gagner did.
