They're asking for 12 each, so they'll probably get 10. That would bring Chicago up to $64 million for 14 players.
- The Shrike

That would make them the highest paid each at 10
Pretty steep price if it's 10 each

Also, they are barely in the minus column, so it wasn't like they just ran around and got scored on...

The second line was the leafs downfall IMO

Yep, barely get hit in Sweden...

The NHL is heading that way too. Smaller players have far more room than they had 10 years ago.

I think he means that their not being able to play more than 3 minutes a night meant the other forwards need to be leaned on for more time, including McClement who was up in the 17 minute range he couldn't handle it.

You don't make much sense here.... On one hand your saying that upgrading the 4th line is the difference maker while saying the 3 mins the 4th line plays in worthless... I don't get it...
- aminnes

I'm saying those guys were worthless, that's why they only got 3 minutes.

a better 4th line could be trusted more, they could play over 10 minutes a night, and you don't have to worry about what will happen when they get mis-matched against another team's offensive line- and you could afford to rest your top guys a bit more.

Kessel, JVR, Bozak, Kadri, Lupul, Phaneuf, Bernier -> these guys aren't the problem. They're all very good hockey players. It's the supporting cast that causes the losses.

On the defense, you've got hope with Rielly and Gardiner- but they're not good enough yet... and Gunnar, Franson, Gleason, and Ranger(for most of the year) sucked.

On forward, you had a 4th line that couldn't be trusted to play a real shift, and a 3rd line that had no real consistency or identity with all the injuries and suspensions.

And when Bernier went down, Reimer couldn't handle the pressure.

I agree, which is why I hope he plays in the AHL. But that would burn a year off of his ELC, so maybe they send him back to Sweden as a free year of development.
- BetterCallSaul

I doubt he's physically strong enough to play in the AHL yet which is why the OHL would be the stepping stone.

I gotcha, but is that gonna come from mar lies guys? Do you really wanna see Ashton and D'amigo out there 10 plus a night? At least Ashton will help protect a bit but that is just as scary a scenario...

our guys are producing 5leaderships/60 minutes, and no playoff team has anything below 10 leaderships/60 minutes. Definitely gotta improve there.

Didn't hurt Tatar at 18, but he was 5'10 190

I didn't have Ashton in my lineup, and frankly, I don't think he's used correctly in a bottom-line role. Needs to be used in a more offensive role to be successful. That or he's useless. Not sure yet.

I think they should probably bring in one more vet for the bottom-6, mainly a center... but yea, I'd like to see D'Amigo, Broll, Leivo, and Ryan get shots. I think Leivo can probably play in the vacant top-6 winger role, with Clarkson, Holland, and a UFA playing in the bottom-6 with D'Amigo, Broll, and Ryan.

That's the price of success in this league, and why dynasties are far less likely now.

It already hurt Chicago this year, they had to dump players like Bolland to make cap room, and as a result, their depth below the second line wasn't a match for LA's in the playoffs, which made the difference in that series.

Polak can help with that. Ashton can handle himself.
I wouldn't mind seeing broll or devane up when we face tough teams.

Nonis......"We liked our defence individually. We didn't necessarily like how they fit together last year. So we wanted to move some pieces and change the look, rebuild it a little bit.

Just a little bit????..........WTF

Days leading up to Draft Day, UFA day, TDL we're all brothers and love talking about what the Leafs are gonna do and what we hope will happen.

Days after Draft Day, UFA day, TDL we are all at each other's throats because it didn't go the way we built it up to.

I still like you guys, I even still like the Leafs. But seriously, what is Shanny's job? What's the description of it? Does he tell Nonis what to do? Is he like mega-GM?

- weirdoh

Super mega gm.

Watched Shanahan's post draft interview. He said he was really happy to read the scouting reports that said Nylander was a selfish player or a kid with attitude problems. That those reports would hopefully help keep him on the table. He said he spoke with contacts in Sweden who played with the kid and those contacts told him those reports were unfounded and pretty far from the truth.

But he's not from Canada. (frank) that. We need Canadian kids on this team. Not foreigners. That's why this team sucks.
