Leiweke pointed out that MLSE’s other franchises — basketball’s Raptors and soccer’s Toronto FC — have seen positive results after major organizational changes were made.

“I think a lot of that is the commitment we made to create the right environment, to hire the right people, to create the right culture,” he said. “I’m not sure the Leafs have it.”

For them to bring in Boyle someone is getting squeezed out.

Right now the Leafs have Franson, Gardiner, Gleason, Phaneuf, Polak, and Rielly.

Chances are Franson is gone, but you also have to factor in guys like Granberg who could make the jump.

That's the guy who gets squeezed out.....but the Phaneuf trade talk isn't going to just die because Ek says its dead. Teams just got the new cap figure, now we'll see some interesting things happen.

Polak will cut into Dion's hard PK minutes. Might see a different Dion with better offensive zone starts and a Rielly who will be a year older. Might is the key word.
- mykokes

Boom!

Although as much as I love that thought something needs to be said about a 7 million dollar defenseman who needs his penalty kill minutes reduced.

Gleason may be gone.

Maybe. Tough contract to move though.

NO. Phaneuf can be the stay at home d man. He isn't going to go for rushes like Rielly.
- JVR_42_PK81

Dion was more stay at home last season than he has ever been in his career. After the contract signing, and Gleason acquisition, he stopped playing that way, and it showed.

Leaf fans if Gardiner was traded for Shea Weber straight up...

- Gardiner is the next Bobby Orr.
- Weber's cap hit too high.
- Gardiner could score 50 if he was moved to forward.
- Weber was only a 2nd round pick.
- Chara's slapshot is faster.

Clock's ticking if that's the case.

Nonis is following the Mike Gillis path, keeping waiting for a better return in hopes the next deadline brings a better return.

The better return never comes, more likely the return gets worse.

So PK would be

Phaneuf-free agent

Polak-Gardiner/Rielly/Gleason/Marlie?

To be fair to him. Gunnar wasn't the best partner for him either. until game 60 he was actually having a stellar season defense wise.

Left side - Rielly, Gardiner and Gleason
Right side - Phaneuf, Franson and Polak

If I was Nonuts I'd be scouring the earth for a top 3 lefty bumping Gleason out of the mix. He can't skate well enough anymore.
