What if Nylander is the Giroux of this draft? Then Shananonis is a genius.
- Zezel

I'm ok with the pick, this draft was a real craps shoot.

People complained that the Leafs always made the safe pick, then they complained about a boom/bust pick.

When I say big, I mean good. JVR for Schenn was a good move, ergo, a big move.
- Not_Stee

I get you brother. Dont fret over these evil doers.

I would like a big, good move. Yeah JVR for Schenn was good, they should do something like that again. Or the Bernier trade, that was a gooder.

As long as Polak gives the puck away weakly equal to or less than Gunnarson did in his own zone each night this trade just mixes up the physicality and evens up another RD/LD pairing. Nonis and Co. get a passing grade last 2 days...no glaring screw ups yet.

So a fan base can't have differing opinions? Not sure what you mean.. were not all of the same mindset.

I'm very happy with the pick. At first I wasn't sure, but I really think this Nylander kid could be something special.

High skill, high speed forward. Fire it up, see what happens. They haven't traded a first for a while, some of these young guys are going to pay off.

I think most people like the pick because he was the most "doable" guy in the draft.

For a guy that's on the small side and doesn't have a man's body yet, he apparently held his own against men in the SEL, so he's gotta have skating and skill.

I'm sure Petro, bouwemeester, and Shattenkirk were the reason why he didn't play large minutes
- Arctic_AARDVARK

Even more important, from a positional basis, is Pietrangelo and Shattenkirk are both right shots whose combined ATOI is around 46 minutes, so not much left for Polak on his natural side.

There's differing opinions, then there's being difficult just for the sake of it...this fan base leans toward the latter in that respect. Same people who would complain with a Ritchie pick and a Nylander/Ehlers pick are pretty obvious - they always have an argument why they know better regardless which direction the team goes. It is that arrogance that bothers me.

Part of the reason Leafs sent a pick in the Polak trade might be because the Blues are sitting there saying we know Gunnar has had hip surgery, that history adds risk...throw us a pick
