So what are hopeful numbers to sign Kulemin and Hemsky to? (Assuming that is who we go after)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(estimations for 2014-15)
SALARY CAP: $69,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $67,575,458; BONUSES: $68,333
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $1,424,542

1.4M in space allows for either a vet depth dman all year to help the Maatta injury hump, or can be saved for a dealine winger. 1.4M in space means a 5M player at the deadline.

Edit- Give Bennett a solid 15-20 games with Sid and see if he can break out, if not gives Dupuis a chance to regain his stride and he can go back on the top line until the deadline.

I love the deal. I. Love. It. It's exactly the kind of trade that's going to make the Penguins more successful.

PH is a right-handed net-front guy with a wonderful sense of timing and great hands. He is going to have an impact on every shift. I didn't think Neal would be able to land him without giving up more.

Spaling is a former second rounder who plays a no nonsense 3rd line kind of game. Read: plays from goal line to goal line and drives the net hard.

Exactly the kind of return the Pens need in order to place their eggs in multiple baskets.

I don't understand the fascination with Hemsky. A lot was made of acquiring Hemsky at last season's deadline, which would have been a mistake. Signing him now would be a mistake. The Penguins got Hemsky last season at the deadline in the form of Beau Bennett.

the return for neal was decent not great. goes to show you how much his attitude / dirty play / disappearing act in the playoffs hurt his value. would have liked to see a 2nd or third round pick included but you can only get what you can get. and if 15 teams were interested and this was the best deal than neal has really really hurt his value in the league. good on jr for getting what he did. remember all you haters and doubters... we got three assets for neal... hornquist, spalding, and not having james neal anymore.

I guess if it's worth it go for it. In your opinion would that mean Sutter isnt coming back then? How much would he sign for? I've seen some say 3.5 and others say he's looking for 4

Hornqvist kinda seems like a better version of Jussi Jokinen to me

If he nets us 30, then thats the production we replaced....

Who's replacing Neals again?

- RoloTahmasee

You are only looking at 20-25 goals. That is his norm not the one year anomaly where he scored 40.

I'm sorry but every post you put in here is negative. I haven't read a post you've put on here that makes any sense to me.

Name one single thing the fans of this team have to be positive about in the past 5 years, name one thing; just one and I will admit everything is sunshine and rainbows.

In regards to the draft:
I like that we went forward heavy. I guess I have a bias against high school kids from USHL. Some big kids though. Oh well, if Kapanen is a boom pick, great draft.

We've made the playoffs every year, we've fielded a competetative team every year, we have an ownership group who is willing to spend to the cap every year and go for it.

Obviously there have been some big dissapointments and the team has not lived up to expectations, and there have been some head scrathing collapses in the playoffs. But we could be Florida, Winnipeg, Calgary, Toronto fans and have had NOTHING to cheer for in the last 5 years. Or Nashville or Pheonix fans (the exisit?) where you've had some real good pieces, and a great coach/managment team, but ownership not willing to spend to get you over that hump. Or it could be Pitssburgh circa 2001/02 again and we trade our top 5 players for NOTHING, literally, NOTHING..kris franking Beech and Ross Lupashuck..... Be thankful, or jump on the LA/Chi bangwagon and whateveer team is hot at that time. All teams have ups and downs, and only 1 team wins a year, the rest are left dissappointted.

For Neal? you can't just look at the number of goals he scored, you have to look at the number of games he played too. '12-'13 he put up 21, but in only 40 games, that is 43 over an 82 game season. last year he put up 27, but in only 59 games, that is 37.5 over an 80 game season. so he essentially was a 40 goal scorer each of the last 3 years. You can't just cut his stats short to make him look worse for your own agenda.

Another thing, everyone is automatically assuming Hornqvist comes here and his numbers go up, but 1/3 of his goals and assists in Nashville came from playing on the top PP. There is no guarantee he will be on the top PP here. So while his number will probably go up, when you factor in less PP time, they might not go up all that much.

Ok fine, you guys are right; this organization is exactly where I want it to be while we have the 2 most dominant players in the world; losing to the freaking Rags in disgraceful fashion; and unloading a 40 goal scorer for two turds. Jackpot!

What do we make of the reports of Pittsburgh targeting Marleau?

WPG apparently didn't want Neal. Kane talks are silly though.

The only place I've seen that is Ek and I never take anything he says seriously. It would be a disaster for our cap. Impossible actually unless other salaries get moved. We have enough mid-30's wingers IMO.

i dont think spaling is going to sign...

watson and slattery still avail at draft.. maybe pens can get them

- nh4442

Why would he not sign? He really has no choice. He will go to arbitration worst case. Just read on twitter that sense from other gm's is that the pens didnt over value spaling. Maybe we got something. Lets just wait and see is my advice.

No space here for rational thought. You are very much on point.
