Change for the sake of change is never a good idea. So far it's happened with the gm, the coach, and now Neal. Hornqvist isn't a good fit except on the power play. Neal was toxic, but these moves aren't making the Penguins better, especially long-term.

dont forget we saved 700k in cap space so we can apparently get some free agents to help

Hornqvist kinda seems like a better version of Jussi Jokinen to me

If he nets us 30, then thats the production we replaced....

Who's replacing Neals again?

I guess once JR and Morehouse ruin this them, the next GM will get some high draft picks with which to rebuild...if JR doesn't trade them away for Semin.

Just bad asset management. Not mad we traded neal just the fact we didn't get any good throw ins on the deal. Rutherfords trade history sucks hes always the guy who looks dumb on deals. If thats all nash would give for neal he should've thrown some salary with neal like another poster said make em take adams. If Spalding is the reason we cant get goc ill b pissed I like goc. Go home Rutherford u r a dinosaur

I'll ttake semin if Carolina eats half his salary lol.

I think Hemsky, Vrbata, and Kulemin are legit options.

Then I hope they take a flier on a league minimum outside the box move -- Mueller, kolorov, chad LaRose. Why not try it for bottom 6 help/depth? We don't give up anything.

Ya they kinda did....
- nh4442

They absolutly did, anyone that tells you different is full of crap. This trade is embarrassing and makes the Penguins look weak and dumb, which is exactly what they deserve. 100% JOKE.

What playoff year did the Pens succeed with Neal?

Pens played great reg season globetrotter hockey, but that never translated into playoff hockey. Neal could have been a locker room cancer that needed to go. Pens still have 71 and 87 both capable of putting up 40g/yr, Kunitz 30, PH probably around 30, did they really need 40 from Neal, who cant back check, or forecheck? Let PH get abused in front of the net so Sid can do his thing.

Besides, 58 missed half the season and had a career high in goals, I don't think Neal's goals will be missed. Although Adams is pissed cuz his ice time just got cut due to lack of PK time due to Neal.

PH plays a much different style than Jussi. Its more like we added another Kunitz.

JJ had a good year. But like niskanen, will prob not do better than this season the rest of his career. We can replace JJ at similar. Or lesser cost.

I'm sorry but every post you put in here is negative. I haven't read a post you've put on here that makes any sense to me.

Really disappointed in the return. I'm fine with Hornqvist, but JR really couldn't hold out for one of Nashville's 2nds and a late round pick instead of another overpriced, bad 4th liner? We could have then flipped those picks to grab Ho-Sang or Ivan Barbashev. And Spaling's cap hit was 400K more than the man he will be replacing(Glass), so he subtracts most of the whopping 725K cap space Hornqvist for Neal opened up.

So to the people who are losing their minds about losing Neal. I am assuming that you aren't puck bunnies who seem to be taking his trade the hardest, but what is so great about Neal that hasn't been replaced?

Ryan,

I think you need to be ahead of analytics in Pittsburgh.

I like that they received hornquist but spaling puzzles me. Paying a guy that much money. I agree they should have tried for a draft pick or just waited.

Lafferty is a PA boy. Has some development to do, but is very likely to be in the nhl. Hopefully a decent 3rd liner

Would love see Goc centering the 4th line with Spailing on the wing.

Jarry is still years away.

Trades are not evaluated/measured on message boards or in the media... But rather on the ice and for this team specifically the playoffs.

I am tired of "winning" a trade on the surface or signing a "big" name and then having them do nothing in the playoffs

I see what the pens are doing. I'm waiting to see spaling play before I pass judgement on him. Thought we'd have more today but I guess that's it for now
