The players he wanted clearly got drafted. So he decided to trade down knowing the next player on his list would still be available in a few selections. Plus an extra 3rd round pick to make up for the lack of a 4th rounder. Smart move if you ask me.

I see kind of like our goalie situation.Quanity vs lack of quality.

I'm for certain that a goalie was next on his list after Lemieux but all the best ones got taken not long after.

50/50 on whether any of em pan out. Hackett could turn a corner and maybe Makarov could rise to the occasion but I really don't know at this point.

I don't think any of em have Vezina potential though.

They will find a few good players to play here, Moulson being one IMO. Gotta get to the floor but it won't be just signing players to sign players, these players will make a difference.

Kris Baker has a brief run down of each player selected on his site. With just that little bit on info, i can see that Murray is looking for guys who dont quit.

Which is fine IMO. Free agents won't mean much this year unless they are signing 3+ year contracts anyway.

If you build it, they will come. And in 2016, they will start coming.

A lot of players will be put off by the fact that the sabres are gunning for another top pick.

Plus I doubt Murray wants to give out long term deals in FA so that may prevent him from signing some of the other well known players out there on July 1.

I like both as well and totally agree on the second.Hackett has the heart of a lion but not sure he will get a serious chance with all the garbage depth we have. They can put Enroth on Waivers as far as im concerned hes a career backup at best and the guy they brought in from Washington maybe an injury concern going forward.

Loved Moultson before he was traded but I heard he kind of fell flat in Minn so Im not sure I want him at 6 per now. Thoughts ?

For a couple years Moulson would be fine. 5-6 would be a mistake

wasn't too long ago that Columbus was the "joke of the league". Smart trading and drafting can go a long way.

We picked high school guys with our last two picks. Wonder who our high school scout is
- Cheeseballin

Not an answer to your question but they probably went that way because at 18 I would expect both players will go to an NCAA team which gives the Sabres more time to decide id they want to sign them. CHL and I believe Euros must be signed within 2 years of the draft or you lose the rights. NCAA is 30 days after they finish college

I'll throw a controversial nugget to revive (defibrillator if you will)

If we draft 2nd overall next year, Eichel would not be my choice.

Discuss my stupidity for a few pages and I'll retort, that should get this thread going

Otherwise I'm bringing in the soccer talk

Out of curiosity, why?

I am not well-versed in these players, so I am curious as to why you would not want the second most coveted player?
