This day equates to a giant case of blue ballz. Zip it and go home. Nothing happening here. Omg what frickin downer. NHL can be a very strange entity at times.

Is it really that crazy to think that the GM's have known this number for awhile, and planned accordingly?

If Sharp gets traded in the next couple days (if not today) for a 3rd or 4th and B level prospect then ill start to think that they really didnt know what the number was going to be.

- BlazinMike

Multiple GM's have said they didn't know what the number was going to be. It was negotiated with the NHLPA today.

I would agree and we can also go after a Dman too. I like what the new GM is doing
- VANTEL

Or, your owners told him to stay under the cap to recoup all the money they are paying Gillis, Torts, Booth et al.... that is between $10-20M right?

You were the one who absolutely knew Benning would take nothing less than the 10th pick from Murray weren't you? What is the bat phone saying now?

One thing I always have wanted to see in sports with salary caps is a break for teams who develop their own players. I think if you draft a player and develop a player and the time comes for the player to hit UFA, if you extend that player to say a 5 year $20 mil deal (so $4mil per with an AAV of $4mil), the team should get a cap bonus so to speak of 25% on that deal so it will then only count $3mil against the cap instead of $4mil. I hate that teams that develop their own players eventually will have to lose them because of the cap.

Like that concept a lot. Reward teams for building from within and not just buying a team.

So common in baseball where small market teams can never hold onto top-end talent. It's a shame for the fans to lose that player connection.

bollig's contract is sickening 1.25 mil for a goon that was part of the downfall of the 4th line in the playoffs....morin is 5x the player bollig is...and yes i realize he has a role on the team bc there are a bunch of pansies who can't stand up for themselves on the hawks roster but why not sign him for under 1mil...is the market for goons really that small???

Didn't we hear that on Parise?

>Yep, and Suter, and , and
>Lots of second place finishes for the unified front office
>Think they set the market value and then get played
>Or, they are in on everything with little intention of actually closing, unless it's a steal
>I'm waiting until after July 1 before being really upset

What did it have to climb to?
- StLBravesFan

It needed to be around $0.97-99. At the time the deal was made, the Canadian dollar was worth slightly more than it is now.

The big dip in 2014 came around Feb/March and has been climbing ever since. Not quite back up to where it was.

The Hawks are going to have to reduce $1.5 mill here. That would be Bollig and change.

Oh. I see... Benning is going to turn a Dorsett/Sbisa package into the 1st overall.

Also, he is sending Edler back to Sweden for a stem cell package to make the Sedins 10 years younger.

Should have known all along.

Where was it ever stated the cap was going to be $72M? There were warnings that the Canadian $ would have a cooling effect on the upward spiral of the cap. That's what happened or did they really need to schedule 25 outdoor games a year to keep it spiralling ever upward?

I know you don't care, but do you want a floor of about $60M so teams like Florida, Nashville, Phoenix, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Carolina and a few others go tits up?

Still think #19 and #88 are going to get $12M each?

Give it a rest, the Hawks will have to work around it and move a player or 2 and replace them with younger farmhands which they have been working at doing for a number of years.

- RickJ

Yes, I do.

I want contraction: get rid of cities that can't support teams - stop screwing the thousands of fans of the Hawks and other good hockey cities to prop up teams with hundreds of fans? The TV networks will pay less overall, but probably more per remaining team.

And it was the league that projected $71 last January/February.

IF Kane and Toews get 24 mill combine under a 69 mill cap the Hawks will be lucky to even make the playoffs the roster would be so decimated.

Hey, but at least we did win two Cups.

so in the spirit of doom and doom and if not apocalypse now...then it is certainly next year.

Is it possible that when Toews and Kane extensions kick in next year this team may actually be on the decline:

1. Toews/Kane ext hurt them vs the cap
2. Hossa's production continues to drift south
3. Sharp may need to go to pay for Toews/Kane.
4. Seabs and Keith are north of 30.
5. Some of these non-core fail to develop.

Lets say the cap next year is 73 mil: Toews and Kane cost you 8 mil more that gives them a payroll at 72 mil and with Saad, Leddy and Kruger as RFA's which could cost them a combined 9 mil if they keep them. I don't see how they do this.

LOL...indeed. Someone please explain to me why we had to sign Bollig to that 3 yr. 3.75M deal?

Ahh, the safe refuge of all Blackhawks cap casualties. Sharp should probably be shipped off anyway. We have plenty of wings and too much salary.
