True, but TT is 6 years younger with a cap hit that is $1M less. TT would have been a good value, too.

and about 20 goals less.

I agree with that.

However, what makes you think they'll l GET any 2nd line center if cap lands below 71 million? NExt year the growth will be similar and they'll be up $hits creek again. that's my point.

if the Hawks MISJUDGED the cap this year, then somebody better be held accountable because it will start a chain of events for not only this year, but next year as well....and teams aren't going to give you the return next summer they will this year for an Oduya or Sharp.

- SteveRain

They didn't misjudge the cap. They just didn't want to give up Saad AND Leddy plus a high pick for an injury prone player who would have made it near impossible to keep this core together.

It's because the Hawks offer HAD to include Saad, a first and probably Leddy to complete the deal.
- CaptainBlackhawk

And how do you know that? I thought it was being reported by multiple sources that Vancouver wanted TT and Stan couldn't part with him.

Because Bonino right now is a significantly better piece than TT. That's why.

Told the Coyotes are strongly considering buying out Mike Ribeiro. The veteran forward is under contract through 2016-2017. Not official.

I haven't watched him much since Dallas. Anyone know whether he'd still be worth a band-aid for a year or 2?

There's no guarantee TT is ready yet. Plus, Teravainen could play 3C or on the wing.

"We like Andrew Shaw as our 2C...."
- hawks2010

Shaw's fine, and I'm glad he's on the club...

...but I really have doubt's that he's the answer at 2C.

Concerning Ryan Kesler, Blackhawks were interested but the impact on the cap was a concern, specially for the 15-1f season.

- mrpaulish

gee...i wonder why...what is so special about the 2015-16 season...: oh yeah kane and toews looking like a 20 mil hit and leddy, saad and krugs are RFA's with a cap that might be going up less than expected...

hawks did not have the cap flex and they sure as hell were not going to give up their only 1st round pick

Ducks had the cap flex and two 1st round picks and a player and a decent young player they were willing to deal...

Nothing wrong with some forward thinking while still remaining competitive for the Cup. Would have loved Kesler, but there are other moves they can still make and noticeably improve the team without having to purge more than they want to.
- howiehandles

Yes. and they would likely be able to add a solid UFA or 2 with the Cap space freed up in a Sharp trade.

And TT has 2 points in the nhl. Bonino scored 52 last year. Five more than saad.

Right, so by that math, you can look at guys like Vermette, NIelsen, Spezza, Bonino (doubt it happens), Eller...as your center targets, either because they are affordable, or have limited term

They did misjudge the cap if it comes in at 68 million or 69 and NOT 71. That has a direct snowball affect on NOT only this year, but next year as well. There future budgets will be off at least 2-3 million and that may force AN extra body to go.

I guarantee those Kane/Toews deals are being held up right now because of the fact that the owners are scrambling to get that cap up right now. They, Hawks, need 71 million.

Just say no to Ribiero...

Pretty sure he was a healthy scratch more than a few times this past season.

That'll pretty much eliminate any talks of Spezza or Stastny.

Suppose Bowman could trade for #1 and draft a C, but that's too ballsy of a move.

- Hawks82

I would like it but I still don't think tallon takes it. I know he wants someone to help him now make the playoffs but other teams can still come up with a better offer than that, I think. Of course even if we get the #1 we could use it for other trades, too, not just keep it. Even though I'm fine with ekblad or one of the Sams

Bottom line is we STILL NEED C HELP!!!!! A piece needs to go. To say Shaw and TT can hold the #2 spot is a rediculous assumption. Now is the prime time to move Sharp. Get a damn legit C Stanley!!!

If you look at what ANA gave up, no one that fits Saad's profile was in their deal. My Spidey sense tells me SB offered nothing of equal or better value in return, likely not even TT.

We will never see a real value for value deal made by this front office. Too conservative.

To the Frans Nielsen folks...

what do you think nets Nielsen here to Chicago?
