Businesses base decisions on projections all the time - if they didn't rely on projections, they wouldn't be able to make any decisions.

You buy equipment based on future cash flow projections, you hire staff based on future sales projections, you produce inventory based on future cash flow projections.

I say that unequivocally.

- StLBravesFan

Base decisions yes, not make decisions, HUGE difference.

I still feel like its a super long shot .

But if Sharp is on the move its to free up space to sign someone .

I always thought Stastny would stay in Col or go to St. Louis .

Hes been contradicting himself lately...for the longest time it was willing to take a home town discount, money isnt important, winning is. The usual speech.

Now that he is seeing what other contender teams are willing to offer him, must be a lot lower than his 6.6m. It will be interesting to see what he signs for.

People realize there are other centers on the trade market and in UFA, correct?
- dan9189

Very few that will fit.

They have plenty of prospects. Even with that the Ducks were just as good as Chicago LAST year...better record and lost to the same Kings team in 7 games. NO discernible difference between LA/Anaheim/Chicago overall....
- kwolf68

Bruce Boudreau is their coach.....so all things being equal....Anaheim is behind LA & Chicago.....

Don't hold your breath that whomever is left at slot ten is an impact player, that's where in my humble opinion the 4th tier begins. A 4th tier selection is a guy who is projected as a "Top Six Forward, Top Four D"
- wiz1901

I agree...but all things considered the 10 is a better get than the 24, from the standpoint of having access to more players or it being a better bargaining chip if you wanted to move up to top 5 area.

Ryan Kesler is NOT Toews lite. Please.

secondly... if THAT was the best offer Anaheim got, it wasn't remotely 50/50. And not by a closer margin.

- CaptainBlackhawk

Are you for real?

EVERYONE is saying Kesler was only going to Chicago or Van and wouldnt' waive for anyone else....So by math, lets see....2 teams, and you are 1...what is 1 into 2?

Second, Did Kesler win a Selke? I think he did. Is he usually over 50% at the dot? I think he is. Does he still score while shutting down top opponents? I think he does. So yeah, Toews lite is a valid comparison.

I am a huge Sharp advocate BUT to the other's guy point....overpaying for 29 and 50 has put you into that spot. Along with Sharp's off ice issues.

How will everyone feel when 10 AND 27 have to go and you may not even get back a 2c but instead prospects and picks and maybe a cheap 3c or 4c?

Is that team better then the one that lost to LA? Uhh.....NO.

I'll say it again...Bowman was in charge of helping Uncle Dale keep tabs on the cap situation. The whole 2009-10 debacle is not just on DT.

Bowman proving again...he didnt' forecast correctly and there better be hell to pay in the press if he has to sell off guys....which I am guessing he will.

- SteveRain

If you lose sharp and for two quality players. I'm happy with that. Sharp for Eller and tinordi!

One step closer to Santorelli time.

I'm torn on him or Matt Carey as the new 2C.

Again...

The Hawks could have blown that offer out of the water if they so chose. Instead of freaking out, relax a bit.. and connect the dots.

But Kesler would have been perfect .

He was my first choice too but there are other options. This isn't like the Bulls missing out on LeBron in 2010.

No soap box.

connect the dots my friend...

the Hawks could have blown that offer out of the water if they wished to. They didn't. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why they didn't.

- CaptainBlackhawk

i agree with your opinion that it wasnt "do or die" for Kesler...but just bc some other people dont agree with you it doesnt mean they dont know hockey..he wouldve been a great fit but Saad is already as good or better a player so F-off benning enjoy Bonnino and Sbisa (who has been passed over on the Ducks depth chart)

Lets hope that's how it works out. I don't think he's a terrific coach, but his teams do win at a very high clip. After he left Wash they have steadily gone down the tubes. He goes to Anaheim and they pick it up. I don't think he's Scotty Bowman the 2nd and his 'systems' are at times very loose, but he's not the colossal joke most of us think he is.

Anaheim will be a very tough out.

Right now. Today. This team has more talent than any roster in the NHL. I have zero doubts that Stan Bo will make some moves to improve the roster. Just not at the expense of giving up a ton AND destroying their future.

interesting how everyone on the boards initially felt all the hawks were going to do was make minor tweaks and we all were debating who they would get....

Zach Smith
Turris
Hendricks
Nielsen
Vermette

and then everything blows up once Kesler thinks he might want to play for the hawks...and then the hawks are going to sell the farm (Sharp, Bickell, TT, Saad, Kruger) to bring him in....

lets all be realistic.... the offer of Bonino and Sbisa is not a bad one and likely more than Stan was willing to offer for a player with a history of back injuries...

Lets get back to reality and try to shoot for a solid, less expensive 2C that can still win FO's and feed Kane and Saad....
