they have PLENTY of resources to add there.

From where? No good FA d-men on the market.. Trade maybe, but you have to give to get...

Anaheim essentially swapping Bonino for Kesler is only a minor upgrade(Bonino very underrated, he was easily the Ducks 2nd best center). And yet so many already are taking shots at Bowman and acting as if this move puts the Ducks on the same level as LA or Chicago...gimme a break.
- SimpleJack

The Ducks had the best record in the West last year did they not? They lost a tough 7 game series to LA...they ARE on the Hawks and LA level, or damn close. PLUS, their salary cap situation and load of prospects indicates that if they need to go get another D-man to round out that team they can easily do it.

I'll channel my anger.....NOW, but by Wednesday norning, we better see some signs of life.

What has set me into rage mode is all along it was 50-50 and Bowman lost out. It's that simple. For a guy who is Toews light, and would have given you 2 top centers who play COMPLETE 200 ft games.

Spezza wouldn't know his own end if he fell of f the bench and landed on his @ss in the zone.

Stasny wants at least 6.6 and somebody may throw HUGE money at him...and he may take less to go home to STL.

So now you are back to trading.....and I wish them luck at that.

- SteveRain

Ryan Kesler is NOT Toews lite. Please.

secondly... if THAT was the best offer Anaheim got, it wasn't remotely 50/50. And not by a closer margin.

To answer your question about the cap and losing that guy or this guy....maybe he shouldnt' have overpaid Bickell and Crawford last summer? How about that?

Saad, Sharp are more important to this team then both. ON Bowman for not having a quality prospect to take over for Crawford or signing a stop gap veteran goalie.

- SteveRain

IMO Bickel is not an overpay......and you can't say that about CC until the dust settles on FA and new goalie contracts....regardless I feel both contracts will be a bargain when it's all said and done.

Not yet....Might have been Leddy or Saad being included.
- SteveRain

If it would have taken Leddy, TT, and a first and Bowman didn't do it, he is an assbag.

I will await to see what happens the next hours/days before I go nuclear, but not feeling it right now.

Bonino is also signed for 3 more years at under 2 million.

Last season he outscored:

Bobby Ryan
Travis Zajac
Brandon Saad
Daniel Sedin
Mike Cammalerri
Joffrey Lupul
Cody Hodgson
Ryan Kesler

Not a bad deal for the Nucks

Kesler would have been a perfect fit and a team that kicked our ass all year added him for scrap parts .

Its not panic time simply because the Hawks could dump Sharp and make a run at Stastny or Aquire Spezza ( Who Al thinks makes more sense for the Hawks anyway )

We'll see.

- mrpaulish

Stastny said he wouldnt take a pay cut from his 6.6m hit on the open market and doug maclean is saying on sportsnet he is hearing rumblings that he will re-sign in Colorado.

All rumours so who knows what he will end up doing

Not quite. When multiple sources are saying the Hawks are in on Kesler and the front runners and lose out to the crap package Anaheim offered, naturally people are going to be pissed.

If everything was quiet and the Hawks were not in on Kesler at all, I wouldn't care as much.

- Dannyboy

The ducks offer is equivalent to shaw, leddy, and our first. Except better. I posted this the other day and got a resounding no from hawk fans.

You are a huge trade sharp advocate yet now he's an important part of the team? Which one is it?
- coldsteelonice

I am a huge Sharp advocate BUT to the other's guy point....overpaying for 29 and 50 has put you into that spot. Along with Sharp's off ice issues.

How will everyone feel when 10 AND 27 have to go and you may not even get back a 2c but instead prospects and picks and maybe a cheap 3c or 4c?

Is that team better then the one that lost to LA? Uhh.....NO.

I'll say it again...Bowman was in charge of helping Uncle Dale keep tabs on the cap situation. The whole 2009-10 debacle is not just on DT.

Bowman proving again...he didnt' forecast correctly and there better be hell to pay in the press if he has to sell off guys....which I am guessing he will.

They have plenty of prospects. Even with that the Ducks were just as good as Chicago LAST year...better record and lost to the same Kings team in 7 games. NO discernible difference between LA/Anaheim/Chicago overall....

Wiz....I DO like Bonino, but the other two? Meh...had that other pick been #10 instead of #24 then tough to argue. But Sbisa and a 24? It just doesn't look like a deal we could not have beaten some how...then again I guess it's true, TT is not on the block. Seems like a move teams NOT in a Cup window do.
- kwolf68

Don't hold your breath that whomever is left at slot ten is an impact player, that's where in my humble opinion the 4th tier begins. A 4th tier selection is a guy who is projected as a "Top Six Forward, Top Four D"

I still feel like its a super long shot .

But if Sharp is on the move its to free up space to sign someone .

I always thought Stastny would stay in Col or go to St. Louis .

Anaheim didn't kick Chicago's ass this year though. The Hawks were 2-0-1 against them this year. Hawks beat them by 2 goals in the 2 wins. You're thinking about last year when they seemed to have the Hawks' number.

Not necessarily disagreeing that they're stronger up the middle now, just that that one statement isn't correct.

I full expect no moves and Stan drafting at #27. At most there could be a salary dump or two.

People realize there are other centers on the trade market and in UFA, correct?

Probably in the minority here...but that wasn't such a bad return for Van IMO. Hawks weren't going to trade a guy like Saad (rightly so for talent & cap reasons) and Van gets a younger, talented, cheaper center for their 2nd line. Frees up Van $ to address other needs. Plus, Van still got a higher pick than Hawks had to offer.

I don't think the difference between Kesler and Bonino--who is still likely improving--necessarily puts Anaheim over the top on it's own

The rest of the day should be interesting. Still expecting some Hawks moves...

Exactly. They won't skip a beat with Bonino replacing Kesler. Surprised they couldn't get the #10, but that's why Anaheim is where they are and the Nucks aren't for a few years.
