Between Kesler and Spezza, I like Kesler better. Will see what happens. If they can do it without moving TT, great. I think the prospect I'd like to see not included in a deal is McNeil.

He may not be ready for the big club this season but at some point. Maybe I like the idea that he's not 6'2" but only 145 lbs like some of the prospects.

Note - 145 lbs is meant to be red fonted but didn't feel like doing it.

- HawkintheD

Kesler fits the Hawks style a little better and is a true 2nd line center. Spezza is a top line center and landing him would give the Hawks a 1a and 1b option down the middle.

Yes it is .

The Hawks are loaded at wing. LOADED.

But anyways Vancouver doesnt want Sharp for Kesler straight up . Sharp is older. Vancouver wants to go young .

- mrpaulish

To be fair to Patrick Sharp, he isn't Brad Richards. He is still playing at an exceptionally high level for being 32 and is in outstanding shape. He's the guy I can see playing effectively into his late 30's and contributing on 3rd line when his top 6 days are done. I agree that he doesn't really fit into Vancouver's plans and he doesn't make much sense going there but people got to stop talking about his age like he's 48. Regardless of what team he's on next year, you can bank on him netting 25-35 goals.

Yeah adding a real #2 center is an upgrade especially with that Saad-kesler-kane line scoring a lot to help offset sharp's loss, but I still wouldn't include sharp in any deal to get kesler. I would only move him in a 2nd deal to recapture lost youth. Doesn't sound like that is the plan, though

I fell like Kesler is a better fit, but the bonus to Spezza is only 1 year left on his contract, so when the bigger deals for 88 and 19 kick in, we aren't on the hook for him anymore, provided TT doesn't get moved and can develop into a 2C in the next season. That is a lot of "ifs" though.
- JRoenick97

I just don't know what the Sens want for spezza? I'm still for moving TT in a deal. But I guess the front office disagrees. I sure hope he turns out to be a star

Trading Sharp to get Kesler is NOT a Net Gain
- fvineze

Kelser had 5 less goals on a poopty team. He's also C with a 53% FO percentage, 3 years younger, and 1 million cheaper. If that's not a net gain, I'm not sure what is.

You guys who dont want to move Sharp need to get a grip and let go of 2005-2013 SHARP.

Think about what value the Hawks could get for Sharp today that helps the Hawks moving forward.

- mrpaulish

Well, if you put it that way, I am letting go of the Keith of today and thinking about what value he could fetch right now.

Oh - did I forget the red font?

Keith is the current NORRIS champ .

Sharp going to lead the team in point next year too ? Not the Hawks . Maybe the Panthers...

Haven't seen Spezza play as much. Unfamiliarity breeds contempt?

Just kidding. I think the only thing for me with him is he's had back problems and am not sure if that's not a big issue with him anymore.

I know Kesler's had some injuries too but he seems to have rebounded from them.

Sharp made team Canada this year and led the Hawks in scoring. I think he might still be pretty good at hockey.

Thanks. You and I have been arguing for the same things it seems. Well mostly. I only trade sharp for youth and only if we can get a center someway else. And I only move TT if we can trade sharp in another deal to get some youth to replace TT. Easy enough

I know people will say there is no way he's going there but Dale has traded for him before and I think most of the guys from that 2010 team liked Dale; also, Soupy was hanging out at the Cubs game with him.

Maybe he was trying to sell him on playing there.

I can see this happening. for a few reason.

1 - very nice climate sure beats chicago in january
2 - no state income tax, take home more cash
3 - tallon wants to make the playoffs and needs some Vets that can lead the youth
4 - Shapie has 2 cups
5 - Campbell telling him its a nice place to play

There's no doubt he's still a great player, but he's got a high value right now and we could get a nice return that is younger.

Spezza played in 75 games last year after having back surgery the year before. They've both been a little dinged up and Spezza is a couple years older.

There is no doubt about that.

He is the Hawks greatest combination of moveable/replaceable asset is what I am saying .

That's along the lines of what I'm thinking. After TT they don't have a lot of guys that have top 6 upside so if he goes (and Kesler/Spezza/choice C come here in a trade) I think that's exactly what you do with Sharp.

But look at the value he had after 2010 compared to now. He doesn't kill penalties, won't play center and unlike 2010 won't play up and down the line up. Your right, he still made team canada and put up numbers so move him and his outrageous salary before he gets to mid 30's and we can't move him.

I just wonder if it is true then about Campbell requesting a trade From florida? But what else would dale want? I can't see sharp and 27th for #1. And would we keep it and use it on ekblad or reinhart or trade it for Kesler? Would it be for kesler straight up?

Wasnt there chatter about Campbell wanting out of Florida less than a week ago? Maybe Soupy told him the weather is nice, but I doubt either of those guys wants to play for Florida in regards to career success.
