I know. Just that Steve Rain had alluded to it two weeks before.

Ben Smith might be a steal at 1.5 the next 2 years

Kid just works all game long, can play on any line, phenomenal down low, 14 goals in first NHL season, and kills penalties

- FourFeathers773

Like him a lot and Q expanded his role quite a bit as the season wore on. I see that trend continuing this season.

To build on your point (from Mark Lazerus):

Per @capgeek, the #Blackhawks have about $2.4 million left under the cap with 21 under contract. That's with a cap estimate of $71.1M.

Waiting for the ball to drop with a trade today. Something's bound to give with the draft.

Having this window to speak to free agents gives the GMs the luxury of knowing in advance whether a player is A) not interested or B) too damn expensive. Then from there are able to act on a trade quicker.

Surprised we haven't seen more... but I think the Kesler and Spezza's are the key to the dominoes this off-season.

According to LeBrun:

Hawks signings: Raanta $750,000 AAV, Smith $1.5 M AAV

- golfbard

Raanta took a cut? Wasn't he at $925 last year? Interesting!

Currently the hawks are at 68.7 mil spender against the cap with 12 forwards, 7 defensemen, and 2 goalies. They need at least one more forward on the roster (would prefer 2 more forwards). If a trade for Kesler I would think hawks need to clear 5 million.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. It's hard to be productive when your work provides you with internet.

Someone has to be moved now that Smith and Raanta have been signed, I have a feeling Stan has already planned out all his moves for today/tonight
