For everyone saying $10mil+ would be too much for Kane and Toews, define "too much."

If they do not agree to sign for less than that, do you trade one before their deals are up? Both?

If your answer to the "trade them" question is no, then you have just run head-first into the wall that is the leverage two impending UFA faces of the franchise in their prime have. Which is why they will (and should) get $10mil+.

You're making way too much sense!

What about the 'home town discounts' and 'wanting win'?

This is starting to get stressfull.. Of course Bowman isn't going to talk about rumors, Kesler should be moved by 24 hours and now were talking to Stastny.. I still think we need to pull the trigger on a Kesler deal IMO

I love when GM's say that.. hoping a team in pursuit blinks and ups their offer.

Negotiations: yes, I think there was one in the summer of 1972 that was pretty important.

They screwed that one up.

If Statsny is a real option, Sharp and Oduya would have to go to mitigate the cap hit.
- JRoenick97

Just put that in big bold print and wait until tommorrow. The other point is whether Tervainen can be spared.

Statsny is the better long term solution among centers on the market. I would be willing to act fast to secure his services. Failing to land Statsny, then be willing to use each of the following if necessary: the first 2014, Leddy, Oduya and choose between Sharp or one of Bickel or Shaw or McNeill. The first 2014 could be kept, and the first 2015 substituted. That is the breaking point in what Bowman can use to secure a center. Some players and picks might come our way as all those assets bowman could barter would not go,straight up for a center.

Brookbank and a veteran dman to be determined later can fill out the defense. Dahlbeck is their competition; don't hold your breath on Rundblad - his good showing would be a surprise and a bonus. Rosy should be given away.

Both Kruger as #3C and Morin on a regular shift must receive their opportunities. The hope for a shot of adrenaline late in the season comes from Rockford recalls. Hopefully one of TT or McNeill is part of the recall. Johns would be a nice fit on a third pair late is the season if he is ready and if Dahlbeck has a strong rookie season.

Toews and Kane are told they are to take $10.5 and expect to keep receiving assistance with their commercials and endorsements. Fair offer.

Elliot Freidman on radio just said that Kane and Toews will start at asking for 12 per but will likely settle for around 10ish per.

Are you remotely familiar with the concept of negotiating? If a player asks for a high price do you think a GM is going to say yes right away? Not for nothing the new deals won't kick in until next summer.
- golfbard

My prediction based below is based on a transaction which happened to my 13 year old son on Friday.
Ernie Banks bobble head day, A guy asks if he can buy the item after the game with an offer of $50, son says $100, guy $65, son $100, guy $85, son sold. We had an extra. Anyways, 12 million x 85% = 10.2 million each over 8 years

Lol I know it's just feels like a roller coaster waiting for the past week for the draft. All I want is a 2C. But yeah, if the draft is over and we still haven't done anything it'll really kick in.. I just really want Kesler.

In an up-capped world that is fine. Pure market forces. Period.

In a salary cap world and for guys who want to win titles (see New England Patriots approach for several seasons), not so much.

Many shades of gray now. Like it or not. It's the necessary evil of the salary cap era.

That a boy ! Teach leverage .

The only leverage the buyer had was if there was another seller ! Good to get 85% of tje original price !

So...you are saying trade one of them, then? Or both? Those are the options you've whittled yourself down to, apparently.
