Enjoy the stacked line up while it lasts. The rent is about to go up big time. With all these contracts getting inflated can only mean its a matter of time u til another lockout

More and more you have to consider that Stan needs to do something to upgrade when everyone around him is likely doing the same thing.

Getzlaf and Perry signed for 8,625,000 out of possible max deals of 12,860,000. That puts them at 67% of max.

Parise and Suter signed at 63% of max deals

Crosby signed at 72.5% of max

Malkin signed at 66.81% of max

So if Toews and Kane were to each get 70% of max, that means right about $10 million each.

Guys, this is a contract negotiation. Their agent asks for 12 mil each, and Stan counters with 6. Then they start working their way somewhere in between. I suspect they end up over 8, but less than 10. Maybe even less than 9. Again, there are so many mitigating factors. Arguably, this is the most important negotiation, up to this point, in Blackhawk history.

I seriously doubt these guys are coming in under 9. JMHO

12 mill EACH!!!?! They are good players, but not in same league as a Crosby. Good luck making a roster work with 24 million locked up on 2 players! That's a third of the projected cap (71 million) OUCH!

if DD tweet is accurate and 24 hours Kesler is gone....1 of 2 things happened.

1. Either Hawks or Ducks gave in enough to get these talks moving seriously

OR

2. A team came strong at Vancouver from the east. I would bet Boston. Lots of pieces to move with decent cap hits.

Boston gets Kesler, and do Hawks get outbid for Spezza?

Then what?

depth guys and still having to dump salary for 19/88 next year?

Very interesting.

Are Bergeron and Krejci not enough center depth for them?

Except it's not. The $71 million dollar projected cap is for 2014-15 - a year in which Kane and Toews will be in the last year of their 6.3mil/yr contracts. The new deals do not kick in until 2015-16, when the cap will likely be at least $75 million.

Rumors are Hawks kicking tires on Spezza, Kesler, and Stastny

All who would cost north of $5 per

Curran ready to snap his cell phone in half

Has anyone mentioned Grabovski? Is he a possibility?

What's more amazing is fans don't get it... "don't they wanna win?"
- Sconnie

I get it, and I love that our team wins but everyone is acting like Kane and Toews are "just a couple of guys." Reality says these are two premier players that will be paid like it. I don't like the 12 mil number and I hope it's not that high but they have earned the right to lead the market with their performances.

I understand that budgets have to be kept but I also understand that there is a cost to success. Players will keep getting paid more because money is generated and pumped into the NHL. NHLPA says "hey, our guys deserve a fair share of this money." That's why contracts go up.

Still that is way too much money. If that is what they asking for I think one of them will be hitting FA.

Even at $10 million each, that's still 13.3% per player. Seems like an awful lot

Bob McKenzie just said in the radio that they could get 10-12 million each. He also said it could be Malkin kind of money or Ovechkin kind of many and cap is projected to be 75 million in 2015-2016. In five years it could be ~90 million per McKenzie.

Exactly. It's a good problem to have two of the elite players in the game coming into their prime.

Hilariously wrong. There is no way either of them will be hitting free agency.

Are you remotely familiar with the concept of negotiating? If a player asks for a high price do you think a GM is going to say yes right away? Not for nothing the new deals won't kick in until next summer.

At this point in time I seriously doubt the Nucks want Kessler in their locker room next season. Likely scenario is the offers from the Hawks and Ducks are on the table, neither team must have him and the Nucks are going to wait until draft time to make their decision. To me that 10th pick in round 1 will look very inviting.

I dont think CHI likes how he plays on his own half of the ice.

They inquired about him a few years back when he was on TOR. Burke asked for a 1st round pick and CHI walked away. After TOR bought him out, CHI didnt show much interest in going after him and he wound up taking a rather cheap 1 year deal in WAS that CHI could have easily matched

I know the Hawks always link Toews and Kane together and that they got matching contracts last time but is Kane really worth as much as Toews? If Toews was not in the picture and we were just talking about signing Kane what kind of numbers would we really be talking about?

For everyone saying $10mil+ would be too much for Kane and Toews, define "too much."

If they do not agree to sign for less than that, do you trade one before their deals are up? Both?

If your answer to the "trade them" question is no, then you have just run head-first into the wall that is the leverage two impending UFA faces of the franchise in their prime have. Which is why they will (and should) get $10mil+.
