You mean like the rumor that the Penguins stink? That is just completely false. They have an extremely talented team and are a big presence every year. Winning the cup is very hard but they continue to put very talented teams together with young talent coming up. I just don't get how the penguins are a bad team...

Kane wants center Kessler on the team and a $12M salary for himself.

Do the math, son.

Looks like there may be some coaching changes:

Bowman won't say if Steve Weeks is still goalie coach: "We’re assessing a few things with our staff. I don’t want to get into specifics."

You only gave us 1 number work with. What kind of math do you want done here?

Crosby/Malkin/Ovechin money?
- EKolb13

That's $9.25M average! Think of the options now versus $12M each. SB has another $5.5M to work with going forward. No small peanuts.

OK, they don't stink like the Canucks, but they are VERY top heavy so filling out the bottom two lines with solid contributors is difficult. I would hope that Toews and Kane would follow the lead of Gaborik, and take a little less than what they could get, to allow the Hawks to continue to compete for Cups every year! I feel Toews probably gets that, much more than Kane...but time will tell. I just would hate to see another post 2010 cup purge again...which $12M AAV contracts would likely put the Hawks in...

You're not getting Frans Nielsen without a top-6 roster player coming back.

It would be in the Hawks best interest to grab Nielsen + Bailey from the NYI for Sharp. Maybe a NYI 2nd round pick to sweeten the pot.

- kcNYI

Replace Bailey with Clutterbuck and you have a deal.

If Bowman wanted to squash the Sharp rumors he could of . Anddddddd he didnt.

Like I said...GMs generally do not comment on rumors and speculation. I would have been shocked if Stan addressed the Sharp situation.

Same here, but I don't know if Stan said a single thing of value during that whole time.

With the self proclaimed "two best players in the world" shouldnt they have more to show for it besides 1 cup since 2009? I realize its not easy, i just think with all the talking they do about Crosby and Malkin they should have more to show for it

Again, I disagree. I think the only comparables out there as far as team duos is Crosby/Malkin. I may catch flack for this but there is a reason when people run the scenario of "Who do you start a team with?" that Toews is usually #2 behind Crosby and sometimes even #1.

Toews is thought of by many as the best two way forward in hockey. Kane has fire and is the face of USA hockey. Two Stanley cups, Two Conn Smythes. They will be paid for what they have accomplished.

- PhilMeister89

You're acting like Getzlaf isn't a top 5 player and Perry doesn't have a Rocket and a Hart, of which Kane has neither. Look I love our guys but there's not that big of a difference in the quality of the players/the resumes. Stan has the evidence. I know Sid's deal was a while ago, but can Toews really go in their and demand 4 million more than the best player in the world? I don't think so, I don't think 19 and 88 want to be scene as selfish (and I don't think either is) and as the reason that the Hawks run of success could falter. I know it's a lot of money, and if anyone deserves it its them, but I really think they're going to take less to try and win.

holy poop......$12 mil per x 2 x 8 = $192 mil over 8 yrs.....

just imagine if they didn't blow 3 leads and or got the G7 bounce and went on to beat the rangers.....

that might be 1/3 of the cap for 2015-16 for 2 players with krugs, saad and leddy as RFA's....

I think Oduya time with the hawks is up. I would be shocked if he is not the one traded for a 2nd and 3rd or 4th round pick. Seeing as how we wasted our 2nd rounder this year on Rundblad

Gaborik is 32.. and was an addition to an already established team. Kane and Toews are the foundation of this forward group and the face of the franchise.

12mil, if that was the real number, seems high but remember it's just a report. It wasn't toews and kane saying "we want 12mil", it was a rumor. Personally, I think 10 or 10.5 is where it lands.

From Brian Hedger of NHL.com:

Prior to asking Stan Bowman about Weeks, I'd been hearing Weeks had been fired already. That's why I asked. I guess stay tuned, folks.

JJ - Any insight on this?

Isn't the rule still 20% max? It was that way for the 2005 CBA. It's still a ridiculous percentage anyway.

We had better hope each of 19/88's cap hit is a few hundred grand below $10M.

Exactly, I had this same argument with some on here earlier

some were proclaiming Kane + Toews >>>>>>>> Getzlaf + Perry

some people need to take the hawks colored glasses off sometimes

Good points. Give and take. Both sides. It'll get done and I'll go out on a limb right now and say: $75M/8yrs each. Place your bets.

80 million at 8 years each. Less if the Hawks get a center.
