Radio station up here mentioned the Flames are looking at swapping picks with us. (2 and 4 that is)
- Sabresfan-365

The Flames can (frank) off unless Sean Monohan is thrown at us.

..which is what I think it would take, or close to it, for Murray to say ehhhhh what the hell, here ya go.

It doesn't make sense to me if the Sabres want Reinhart (according to Homer)

But if he wanted Draisaitl or Bennett and the Flames really want Reinhart there could be a deal there.

A lot of whopping ifs right there. If one of those conditions is to give us an awesome young player, then fine. But I don't want another 2nd for the 2nd overall. F that dumpster salad.

It depends on the return...I would have to almost guarantee Monahan is not someone they would offer to move up 2 spots

Who knows? Those 3 forwards are all over the place. There is a decent chance Reinhart is there at 4. Especially since most have LD going 3rd. It almost becomes a 50/50 shot you get him at 4. If internally they don't have much separation between the prospects, they might not mind sliding down and acquiring an extra 2nd.

It would just give them more ammo to get back into the first multiple times

That's what I was thinking along the lines of

You could go 2 and say 20

or 4, 20 and 23 or 24? (just a random number not insinuating they make a trade with that team)

That would be quite impressive. If Murray were able to get that to work. I think the deals made tomorrow will be very interesting.

The 31st and 34th overall picks would def give you more ammo to move back up in the 1st. Assuming Ekblad goes first you are going to get one of the Sam's or Leon. If the separation isn't there it would be worth listening to if you have a deal in mind to move back up, or to maybe package a roster player with a high 2nd, etc.

You lost me. What do you mean 2 and 20?

I figured if they moved back to 4th overall, that they would acquire the 34th overall pick in the deal. Then they would be able to package 31 and 47 together along with 34 and 39 together. I think both those packages get you back up into the the late first, right around that 20 pick.

And realistically at the end of the day still walk away with either one of the Sams, or draisaitl. Which at this point, they all seem to grade out the same.

Agreed.

make a trade to take on salary and gain a pick (like Havlat + 20)

Then move 31 an 34 to get back in again

Could be looking at Bennett + Barbashev + Demko. That would be an impressive haul

I meant that as in you could stay at 2 and acquire a pick like 20 with the assets you already have or acquire 20 as part of a cap dump deal with San Jose, or you could go the route you had suggested.

I think he was saying if we stick at the 2 pick, we would likely only get back into the first round once (say pick 20). If we moved back, got an extra second, we could end up with two extra picks so we could pick 4, 20 and 23-24.

Devine raved about Reinhart again.......It's a smokescreen

I think there's also the "if you don't pick our guy, we'll trade you the 2nd overall" play, ala the Myers-Teubert trade. They'ev claimed "they've had their guy all along" so I'm going to guess they won't just give that up for a 2nd round pick.

Gotcha. I personally would not mind moving back to 4 if it lands us another 2nd. However that is the most I'd be willing to drop, and it would have to land us that 2nd.

I read in the Sharks board the other day a deal that would give them Ehrhoff and 47 for Havlet and 20. I personally would love that move.

Adds some salary, moves us back into the first, and gives us someone else to ship out at the deadline.

Stewart can be a 30-goal power forward if he actually had some motivation. Streakiest player in the league IMO

Hmm..

#2, #34 and Giordano for #4 and Ehrhoff. Now that's something I could get behind.

Regarding this whole moving into the first round thing.

The Bills publicly announced in 2013 that they would like to move down in the draft.
It happened.

The Bills publicly announced in 2014 that they would like to move up in the draft.
It happened.

Now that Tim has been publicly announcing for a solid month now that he'd like to move up in the draft.
I trust that he'll make it happen, one way or the other. He's not a wishy washy kinda guy. You know what he wants the second he brings up a topic. I'd wager 100 bucks he manages to move up, if gambling was legal on this site.

I just don't think a lot of GMs blow hot air. He said he doesn't want to trade the 2nd overall unless it's vast overpayment. I trust that comes to fruition. He wants (not "would like to") to move back into the first round. The difference between him and Tallon is that Tallon is fielding offers but has not said "I want to trade the 1st". Timmy ain't no BSer. It's gonna happen.

Just because the Bills done it doesn't mean anything. Two very different leagues. By reading your post seems like you know Murray on a personal level haha.

I'm sure majority of the teams in the NHL are trying to get another 1st rounder to their name. I'd personally try to get one more 1st for next year from a team like Florida, Edmonton, Carolina, Calgary, Washington.... Have 4 first rounders in a very deep draft won't be such a bad idea.

A few of you understood this post, a few of you didn't. I'm not gonna re explain myself, but my point was a GM (of any major sport) is not likely to publicly blow smoke, especially a guy like Murray. For the record, I don't know Murray at all. He's been straight and honest up to this point so when he says "I'm trying to move up" I have confidence that he will, 100%. That's all.

Id rather Baertschi or Gaudreau and 4 for 2.

Would you give up your top prospect to move up 2 spots?

It's most likely Picks for pick kind of trade. Only way Gaudreau comes here is if we send someone equally significant back the other way.
