Just because MacD may play on the third pair doesn't make him your typical third pairing defenseman.
Flyers spread the wealth on thier blue line, I would label thier Dmen as follows.
Coburn(1)-Timonen(4)
Streit(2)-Grossmann(5)
MacD(3)-Schenn(6) - Baxter27
I am hoping Timonen is not getting top pair minutes as he will not be effective. His playing time should be cut in order to get max out of him.
Still hoping Hexy has something up his sleeve to upgrade top 4 |

Not much difference IMO and if you can save a few bucks to add someone else to become stronger all round... He is an option, not saying he is great but if he comes a 1.5 cheaper to play 5-6, i would do it - 3flyerkids
There's a big difference between the two players in my opinion. And defense is not a position I would be in favor of weakening to save some cap space. |

Deserve is relative, is what Riley said, and i believe it for this reason: Just say you pay them 10 million each, 20 total. And the cap is, say, 80 million. That seems like a number we could get to.
So those two players, elite they may be, are takng 25 perecent of the available salary. But they're not doing 25 percent of the work for the whole team. Offense, defense, special teams, goaltending. All the things they do for the team, even though they do a lot, isn't commensurate to that kind of percentage on the cap.
It's unfortunate, because salaries will certainly rise of players around the league. But what Chicago will find is that paying those two that much would lessen the quality of the roster overall, in a capped league.
Take less so you can win more. - AllInForFlyers
These guys are under pressure frmo agents, the NHLPA, and peers to take what they are worth tho. If a 12mil player takes 9 mil to win Cups, then it hurts the bargaining power of a 10mil player who wants 10mil. If 2 guys like 19/88 take less it hurts the pockets of every other player. (and agents) |

Many agents believe cap could be as high as $75M for 2015-16, continue to escalate rapidly. Double digit AAV for superstars may be new norm.

I hear you, but overall team defence needs to be improved not just back end. If clearing cap space ( say a Grossman) can help add another defence man or even a Brian Boyle, it is worth looking at. Don't the Flyers have one of the if not the highest paid defence core? I would just like to see an addition up front and back that can help overall D

•Gary Lawless: The Flyers (most agressive), Maple Leafs, Canucks and Flames are all trying to move up.
Take it for what its worth. Seems like little bits of noise coming out today here and there setting the stage for a fun time tomorrow night. |

Removing Grossmann to add Boyle would be a mistake in my opinion. Defense is more important then adding Boyle. If we can add a defenseman without much a drop off for cheaper, and move Grossmann to add another piece elsewhere, I'm all for it. Grossmann has become the red headed step child on here. But he's a better player then given credit for. |

No question the current mix needs to be upgraded to be a legitimate contender for the Cup. I think it's also possible that if the current mix is not upgraded, Schenn or Grossmann can be bumped up with Coburn and Timonen can support either Streit or MacD with more offensive zone starts. |

I don't believe in Lauridson anymore. If he was going to break through he would have done it last season. I'm getting there with Alt too. Neither of them are excelling in the AHL. They're sturdy AHL defensemen and could fill in a couple games in a pinch but I don't think they're going to win an NHL roster spot. It would surprise me. They would both be a step down from what we're carrying on our roster today. |

3. Al Montoya signed for 1 year, 1 million (very fair raise)
4. Tye McGinn and Jasone Akeson both given modest raises based off recent contributions to the big club (Akeson a bit more so due to strong playoffs)

Thoughts? - mochoson
I am a huge Howden fan, so any way to get him would be great. Though, you could pencil him in to a roster spot. |

There would have to be multiple Schenns, 17 and perhaps a Laughton or another pick |
