I am sure you are right VL would have to be moved. But even a player like Grossman and his 3.5M. Can you move him and replace him was a player like Clayton Stoner from the Wild. He is a big body who can play 5-6 and could be probably had for a modest raise...2-2.5M - 3flyerkids
Clayton Stoner isn't half the player that Grossmann is. That would be a mistake in my opinion. |

Yeah, his tradeability begins to peak July 2, 2015. Only $8.5M owed to him over 3-years then. - Tomahawk
Where does that $2 mil bonus show on the cap if we trade him after paying it? Does it not affect our cap at all? |

Whoa! That's crazy. I still have my old Nintendo system buried in my basement. I was tempted to hook it up a few weeks ago. I wanted to see Bald Bull on a 70" high def screen. - PLindbergh31

Geez. I'm not nearly that tech savvy. I'm lucky if I can connect to the internet/send emails from my phone. |

Many agents believe cap could be as high as $75M for 2015-16, continue to escalate rapidly. Double digit AAV for superstars may be new norm.

Good thing Holmgren got promoted. He would have been paying third pairing dmen 7 mil per season. |

It's believed Kane-Toews initial ask of CHI on extension is around $12M/yr each. They'll end up lower but still could be $10M+ AAV players. |

Good for them. I guess they want to be the complete focus of the team and be surrounded by AHLers.

Not much difference IMO and if you can save a few bucks to add someone else to become stronger all round... He is an option, not saying he is great but if he comes a 1.5 cheaper to play 5-6, i would do it

Stoner is about as replacement-level as it gets... Lauridsen or Alt could come in and give you the same level of play for less. |

10 mil they deserve - Just5
Deserve is relative, is what Riley said, and i believe it for this reason: Just say you pay them 10 million each, 20 total. And the cap is, say, 80 million. That seems like a number we could get to.
So those two players, elite they may be, are takng 25 perecent of the available salary. But they're not doing 25 percent of the work for the whole team. Offense, defense, special teams, goaltending. All the things they do for the team, even though they do a lot, isn't commensurate to that kind of percentage on the cap.
It's unfortunate, because salaries will certainly rise of players around the league. But what Chicago will find is that paying those two that much would lessen the quality of the roster overall, in a capped league.
Take less so you can win more. |

Just because MacD may play on the third pair doesn't make him your typical third pairing defenseman.
Flyers spread the wealth on thier blue line, I would label thier Dmen as follows.
Coburn(1)-Timonen(4)
Streit(2)-Grossmann(5)
MacD(3)-Schenn(6) |

They've already won though. Twice. While playing on extra team friendly contracts. Show me the money if im them
