hopefully there are some good trades, because free agency is kind of mundane anymore.
i think laughton can do that fine. schenn is a decent player, but i still think the ultimate answer should try to package him for a defender. - stayinthefnnet

You would think so, but maybe Hexy believes one of the kids is ready to step into a sheltered role on the blueline and gradually increase his responsibilities as the season continues. An entry level contract along with Kimmo's cap hit opens up some space. Plus, you have to believe another guy with a decent cap hit would be moved to create more space, which would allow them to spend on a young, dynamic forward.
Right now, for a better or worse, the Flyers have 6 NHL d-men on the roster. The mix isn't great. so to move one and allow one of the kids to step in isn't out of the question.

true. i realize it would require some work, but lets just say for total hypothetical sake.
lets say im wrong and in fact they do they out of vinny by simply retaining only 25 percent. Not bad at all. then say they can move one of schenn or grossmann. im guessing schenn would be easier to move, solely for the sake that when you think about it, he would be the one youd least like to part with. but anyway, either or. regardless of the asset that may come back for that player, you still have more space. between the two of them gone, thats gotta be pushing a little over 5 mil.
then i still would look to see if a trade involving brayden for a guy like jossi could be done. depending on what else needed to be added to get that done, id pull the trigger, regardless of the presence of the young guys.
without having that true prongeresque number one guy, they could have a steady, deep, and balanced d core, that suddenly doesnt look so overpaid.
granted, a lot of chips would need to fall the flyers way for this, but this would be my blueprint. you dont get any of the guys like e kane, or vanek, but you keep giroux, simmonds, voracek, coots, and read together. im a believer in laughton. that team would still have a tremendous now of youth and upside to grow, along with better win now ability to me. |

I have no interest in trading Brayden Schenn. |

Predraft mortem or what? - Giroux_Is_God
i don't know about you, but i am sick of talking about schenn and vinny and the potential draft picks. i realize there's not much else to discuss, but jeez...save your breath until after the make the pick. then rip it to shreds or dance in the streets.
i skip any post that begins with a capgeek roster or prospect discussion...i just don't care. when the pick becomes flyers property, i will care. |

THANK YOU
Listen, OB and all those guys- they like to do what they do. So by all means...go watch the kids play and do your mocks or whatever.
The way I roll...I don't make the picks. I'm not gonna get all hung up over who to pick when. I'll have a decent "profile" of possible picks, just so I know what kind of player we're talking about when the name comes up, but I only really dig into the kid after he's picked to see what we (could) have.
I also give a good ol skip to capgeek rosters for the most part |

just not my thing. neither are the fine points of the cba nor fancy stats. it's all useful/valuable information. i just want to watch the team on the ice and enjoy the game. |

Hexy has a history of protecting young players from the responsibilities of the NHL. Perhaps that's why guys like Voynov, Pearson, Bernier and Quick have been able to transition well. People forget guys like Keith and Seabrook, Weber and Suter all spent time in the AHL. Throwing Defensive prospects in the NHL fire has ruined more potential top defensive prospects like Schenn, Sbisa, Erik Johnson, Victor Hedman. Guys like Doughty are a rarity, not the norm. If I were drafting Ekblad I'd drop him on my AHL squad for at least half a year. Let the kids develop away from the spotlight, Personally I want even guys with NHL experience like Laughton to spend some time in the minors. It never hurts the player to get some more AHL time. |

I think Victor Hedman is doing alright these days, but otherwise, I do agree with your overall point. |

That's great, except that Ekblad can't play in the AHL for the next 2 seasons. |

There is no way VL gets moved this weekend unless the flyers retain salary AND take a contract back.
So this might actually be pretty quiet day |
