He would be part of a deal for Buff. I hope not, Buff is a good player, but I am not so sure he is the #1 we need. Him and Coburn would be interesting though. - Deasr1
I pray that Byfuglien never ends up in a Flyers uniform. |

And the world...
Who the (frank) wants to live in Winnipeg? It's like 2 kelvin there in temp and moose probably roam the streets like cows in India.
On second thought, having moose roam the streets kinda sounds hilariously awesome - Giroux_Is_God

Thats the problem with Edmonton and Winnipeg, they cant attract FA's to go there cause no one wants to live there...Edmonton just paid Nikitin 4.5 a year |

I second this. He's not the "Number one defenseman" we should be interested in. |

They had to pay a higher average salary to get Nikitin to sign for only 2 years. Edmonton wants to keep flexibility with all the young prospects they have in the pipeline. Really has nothing to do with not wanting to live there. It's a give and take. In the same what that the Flyers got Hartnell to take less per year, in exchange for longer security. And same with Simmonds who left money on the table for a longer term.

Phaneuf hands down. Depending on the cost, I would have no problems with Phaneuf in a Flyers uniform. He's twice the defenseman that Byfuglien is.

The contract is tough though. I like him better than Buff. It might take more to aquire Phaneuf. |

No Moose. Although me living here should repel that useless sack of poop. Keep Vinny away from Winnipeg. |

I think it would also. It's not so bad for a player of that caliber. He's not in the class of the true star defenseman such as Keith, Weber, Pietrangelo or Doughty. But he's right there at the top of that next level.

He very well could be Zherdev 2.0 but some of the interviews I read recently seems like he really wants to prove people wrong for doubting him. To be fair, said in the cockiest way possible. But playing with that chip on your should can be a powerful motivator to break bad habits. - Roytastic
He strikes me as Sergei Samsonov with PK Subban's swagger+ -- could actually be a really good player, but the sport of hockey is obsessed with forcing conformity and flying under the radar. Actually, a poor man's Yakupov might be a better/recent example. |

I have no problem with that. Current contracts are going to get cheaper and cheaper as the cap goes up. In 2-3 seasons, 7M a year isn't going to be a big deal. Same way with the MacDonald deal. People are like oh my gosh, 5M a year! It's nothing. |

Byfuglien > Phaneuf, all things considered. |
