I know what he meant, what else could he mean?

I'm gonna throw out some thoughts on our defense if I may.

There seems to be a lot of worry surround Kimmo Timonen. You wanted him back but now that he's signed for less, you expect a lesser role for him. I don't agree with this. I believe Kimmo Timonen the player took a pay cut for a chance at winning a Stanley Cup. He gave the team cap flexibility so that his dream could come true. This has nothing to do with his role or how old he is. If the Flyers didn't want him back, he wouldn't be here. If Timonen didn't want to come back, he wouldn't be here. As long as Timonen is playing on our top pair, starting on the Power Play and starting the Penalty Kill, he's our number one. I think he should be allowed to be our number one defenseman until he proves he can't do it anymore. It's an 82 game schedule. Could Kimmo Timonen role change this season? Absolutely! Scott Hartnell was apart of that pretty consistent number one Power Play unit for the past 3 seasons but now he's moved on. Mark Streit is our best offensive defenseman, so I would expect adjustments. It doesn't mean Kimmo Timonen and Brayden Coburn will be split up. It doesn't mean Timonen won't continue to see the toughest opponents on the other team's top line. The only thing that's changed for Timonen is he's one year old and he's getting paid less. He should do what he does until he proves he can't do it anymore.

As for our defense as a whole, I'm not sure it should be looked at as a numbers game or a depth chart. I don't want to say we have an odd collection of desensemen but we don't have a great balance. However, we do have an NHL caliber defense and the Flyers seem to make it work. I wouldn't go as far as underrate it, especially by numbering each defenseman.

If I did number each defenseman, Streit wouldn't be number 2 on the depth chart and Timonen would not be 4th.

I think your thinking here is correct. The Flyers have already said that Timonen's play is going to decide how much he plays. If he plays at a high level, then he'll also be getting top minutes. If he shows his minutes need to be reduced, then that's what will happen.

The notion that only Giroux and Couturier play more than Read is a fault in itself.

Ice time distribution was laughable in the playoffs. Berube'd.

Why is that a fault? And why was the ice time laughable in the playoffs?

Still waiting for the GM who says, "The guy I really wanted was picked a few spots earlier. This guy is ok, I guess..."
- aflyerpower8

I think that pretty much happened when Clarke went up to pick Giroux and forgot his name.

My biggest hope for this draft is that Ho-Sang drops out of the first round (which seems possible with all the reports coming out of teams souring on him) and the Flyers trade up in the 2nd to pick him.

I would be very ok with the Flyers getting Brendan Lemieux. I absolutely loathed his father when he played, and it sounds like Brendan is a lot like his old man.... but every team could use a guy who is hated by other teams, and who other teams hate to play against.

The kid just has so much talent. I wouldn't use a 1st on him but if he's still sitting there midway through the 2nd I would go for him.

True, but he tries to do it all himself & forgets he has team mates, hates to back check, & just stands in the D zone rather than try to pressure the other team.

If he fell to #48 fine, but I refuse to trade up for him in any round.

Not at #17, he was impressive this year showing he does have some offensive skill.

People write long messages on here all time and some simply say something like "Well said" or "Amen". When I do it, there becomes an issue. It's pathetic.

I guess for me it would depend on who was still available.

I was originally hoping for Larkin, but he seems to have climbed towards the top 10 in the last couple months.

I would also be ok with Sanheim, but I think given the dearth of defensemen that he'll be gone by 17.

He's a late 1st to early 2nd, not a mid 1st.

I like Sanheim..........If they wanted a decent D then it's gonna happen within the top 2 rounds, large drop off after that
