the list is garbage, vl was an awesome player when he was younger, won a cup and all. - mydoglicks
There's not a player ahead of him except MAF that isn't more talented than he is/was. I suspect that Taylor Hall will eventually eclipse his career as well when all is said and done. |

all kidding aside, i really feel if hextall makes any trades read will be involved, non-physical undersized guy and now they have umberger to take is pk time - mydoglicks
I absolutely think read is in play. I go back to when the kings got rid of gagne citing he's not "kings material" or something like that. Reads game is much like his.
He would bring back tremendous value and we would need to fill a 3rd line and pk spot. That can be done in August |

Talent is one thing. VL has had a better NHL career than Nash and Kovalchuk. |

Those guys haven't had the opportunity to play with St. Louis either. |

Good luck finding a player equal to Read in August. Sure you can bring in what's left of the scrap heap to play on the 3rd line, or on the PK. But not nearly to the level that Read can. |

Mostly b/c he's played 300-400 games more than them...
Nash and Kovy both have higher per-game rates of goal-scoring despite neither ever having played with anybody decent who could get them the puck.... Vinny had Marty for all those years:
Kovy: .511
Nash: .429
Vinny: .364 |

Goals aren't the only thing that matters. Assists and playoff wins count, too.

Playoff wins are a product of team success. I'm not a fan of Nash, but he never really had much help on Columbus. Kovalchuk didn't have much help either. Is it any surprise that both of those guys had more playoff success once they left Atlanta and Columbus? |

Yeah, but Read's a fantastic PKer. Gagne was not by that point in his career. |

I think the surprise was that Nash was such a dead weight for the Rangers in the playoffs. 15 points in 37 games is terrible for a ~$8 million player. |

Honestly, I don't see how any GM wouldn't want Matt Read. He can fit any system. |

He generated chances. He just couldn't seem to score. Rangers got by because they had strong balanced scoring. They preyed on a weak eastern conference. They really needed a top line to step up and score. Nash couldn't deliver. |

Pretty much. Not a 1st line player, but can play win on any other line and can play in all manpower situations. Is a proven 20-goal scorer with fantastic 2-way ability. |

A's are strongly dependent on linemates' ability to finish... plus all three guys are primarily shooters, so to compare them through goals seems pretty fair.
Defense is the other area where Vinny doesn't measure up to the other two... Kovy and Nash are competent both ways.
