Unless guys are looking to just cash in why would you leave or not want to go to Colorado right now. Its a team on the rise and playing for Patrick Roy has to be a draw as well. Unless its to another contender I don't see why you'd leave a team that is poised to not only be a contender now but for years.

Let him walk if O'Reilly wants to sign, with Duchene, Mackinnon and O'Reilly the Avs don't need Statsny that much. They need D more in my opinion.

Avs have a lot of young talent, true. I am not so sure about Roy being a draw. He has created a bit of a negative persona for himself as a coach with his antics. That sort of thing could easily backfire, and players could tire of it. His style could go over better with young impressionable kids than it does with seasoned veterans, but a coach will inevitably have both. It will be interesting to see how they do in Year 2, because I think they way overachieved last year.

Nevertheless, kudos to him on a job well done this season, but duplicating it can be another matter when everyone is going to give you their A game, now a year wiser.

Roy hasn't pulled any "antics" in the NHL yet. Everyone refers to the first game of the season last year against the ducks with the loose partition. All Roy was doing was showing his players that he is in the war with them. If you listened to anything avs players or Roy said last season, you would know the coaching/player relationship is a partnership on this team. If showing your players you are dedicated and passionate about their success is considered antics, I hope there are plenty more antics to come.

Mackinnon is the reason for Sakic's structure. He will be the only player to make more than Duchene. If we hand out a contract to anyone that is worth more than Duchene's contract before Mac is due to reup, he will make stupid money. However, if we keep everyone below Duchene's contract Mac likely resigns for about 6.5 LONG term.

I would rather be in the Avs situation then say Pittsburgh .. 15 mil of cap space and 14 players signed. Or Chicago trying to ship a 30 goal scorer just so they can sign two players.

I can tell ya one thing too ... You bet you're ass that if Pittsburgh had a choice at a coach, after what happen this year .... Roy would be on the top of they're list.

I have no idea how Pittsburgh would get in that situation? Plus word out of Chicago is that Kane and Toews want close to 10 mil each, how will Chicago even keep a team around them?? Unreal for sure

I guess everyone is banking on the cap going up to 80 mil in two years.... they better hope so.

They can't. This thing will happen to teams that have success, but greed works its way in..

Well the whole cap structure is going to be blown when they have to resign MacKinnon, he is going to be better than Duchene, and probably be the face of the franchise within a year or two.

Lol this is too funny. Just because one moron from our thread said Schwartz or Tarasenko for Spezza, these Blues fans got reluctant on even negotiating. One fan from the Blues on this thread put it nicely; a package of Berglund and Shattenkirk is formidable, I'd like a prospect and pick instead of Berg though. When Stastny resigns which I'm very confident he will, your only option left would be Spezza, and that's when you'll have to pay big. Unless you want another disappointing post-season.

It has nothing to do with one "moron" on your thread. Every team the Blues have tried to deal with has reportedly asked for Schwartz or Tarasenko.

I think you're missing the point. Schwartz and Tarasenko were part of that rebuilding process. The fans don't have anything to do with the negotiating of a team, i.e. Boyes was a fan favorite but was out like a lightbulb in an instant. However, you can't blame Blues fans for not wanting to lose either of two young kids with tremendous potential. If one of them had to go, it's obviously Schwartz over Tarasanko, but what team would want to lose either of them?

And you seriously believe Spezza is the only option? Ottawa has goal-scorers too, but he didn't seem to help them in the post-season.

I like the idea of Kesler, if stastny walks, but to give up the ransom for him in trade, then just to have to extend him for more than probably 6m. Would rather just pay stastny more than 6 instead of getting hit twice.

So bc of that...all I would want to give up is the 1st round, Seimens/Elliot, a roster player like PAP/Hishon. And that is not enough to get the trade done...anymore and it just knocks the avs back years in depth and development.

Its a gamble since who knows if Kesler Landy and Mac would mix well. Keeping Stastny is all about MacKinnon chemistry and development. I like the player I just don't like the risk involved in burning assets if he doesn't extend or if the line doenst click well

I like the idea of this adding Iggy talk if Stastny walks. I think it would be a better use of Cap space and allows us to move PAP for D help or Bottom 6 depth.

If Kane and Toews are asking 12m each in an extention, 7.5m seems about right for second line guys. These contracts are getting crazy again...why did we have 2 lockouts?

The more I think about this, the more I like it. It gives us 6 million to spend on a top Defenseman in Free Agency. Possibly Niskanen
