They have room to sign Vanek, why not Stastny? And I would be the least bit surprised to see Fletcher clear even more space with a trade or 2 in the near future (Koivu being a possibility). Mikko has far too much value to be bought out, I think.
I love Stastny, but I don't think he is exactly what the Wild needs right now.

Wasnt sure what the cap sitation was for you guys, especially regarding goal and some RFAs.

You guys will sign stastny at 6 and we will sign Vanek for 7, just to rattle my chain this offseason

Rangers..7m..they'll still have enough to sign their RFA's and maybe Pouliot. They'll replace Stralman with a cheaper option and Boyle with a rookie like Lindberg. I don't see him going to a direct rival like StL but they'll be in the mix i guess.

Personally I think it's going to be more about the years than the money. He will get some generous offers but from rebuilding teams which I don't think Statsny will want to be a part of. He will get a couple offers from good clubs and ultimately tell the Avs "I got offered this, can we work something out year wise" I believe he wants 7 years for roughly 6 million.

Avs do need to realize that they got Duchene at a STEAL for the term and given the cap going up, they are going to have to go over 6 million a year for higher caliber players. Hopefully they do before they lose Stats and O'Reilly

I could live with that

Cant see him on the Ducks. He would have to leave the exact same kind of money on the table that he would to resign with teh Avs to fit under the cap system.

If he doesnt resign I think its Blues, Rangers, and mention by another Avs guy...Dallas as the destinations

We can offer him 7*7 and be fine cap wise.

It would be a WTF moment but if our top line was ROR Duchene Vanek followed by a Landy MacK Tanguay line...I might learn to accept that.

I don't doubt he wants Schwartz, but if he thinks its going to happen he's sniffing glue. I wouldn't trade Schwartz straight up for Spezza. If that is the kind of return they want, Spezza will be playing in Ottawa next year.
- Hull16

Lol this is too funny. Just because one moron from our thread said Schwartz or Tarasenko for Spezza, these Blues fans got reluctant on even negotiating. One fan from the Blues on this thread put it nicely; a package of Berglund and Shattenkirk is formidable, I'd like a prospect and pick instead of Berg though. When Stastny resigns which I'm very confident he will, your only option left would be Spezza, and that's when you'll have to pay big. Unless you want another disappointing post-season.

The lines looks great, but the financial obligations would likely make a grown man cry.
It would be nice if Russo speaks the truth in regards to Vanek possibly accepting a 1-3 year deal to sign in Minny. Anything longer than that and we (or another team) could have a Heatley-like scenario on their hands.

Too much cash invested in the Top 6....we would be stuck with Benoit and Holden in the Top 4 for Dmen again....that worked out well

I wonder if anyone is going to toss Heater a 1 year deal

We can offer him the money, term, 2C, play on a line with Val and play in a system where he can play a speedy north south game. PP time with Benn and Seguin if we want to stack our PP.

For Stastny to tell the Avs "he'll come full circle" tells me there's something there. You dont usually see that with a player and organization.

structure wouldn't even be though about when you have an all-star playing for you. He's the structure along with Mackinnon and Landy.

i was referring to the cap structure they appear to have of not paying anyone more than duchene @ 6m or whatever he is going to be making. i agree that he is part of their 'core' though.

Which is why I completely agree with Sakic taking a hard stand on this. If he gives in to Stastny's demands, a precedent is set for the next UFA. At the same time, he's as necessary a piece as they come for an up and coming team like the Avs. Big step back if you lose out on him, unless there is a solid plan B.

I don't think the NHL has seen the last of Heatley

Blues wouldn't trade Shattenkirk for Spezza straight up. Blues fans aren't talking about a deal for Spezza much at this point because Sens fans are out to lunch expecting more than Berglund, mid-level prospect, & a 1st for one year of Spezza. One Blues fan saying Shatty & Bergy is about as ridiculous as the couple of Sens fans who think they are getting Schwartz or Tarasenko. According to most Sens fans, Spezza is a lock to sign an extension here if we trade for him. Well, if he is so set on playing for St. Louis after his current contract, we are young enough to hope being even half healthy will get us over the hump next playoffs; and if not sign him for nothing in 12 months. All this assuming contract talks aren't going well with Statsny right now.

Like Avs fans, I struggle to see Statsny going anywhere other than St. Louis or Colorado, maybe a slim chance of NYR. Both Avs and Blues really want him, have a decent amount of cap space, and are where he spent his life up until this point.

The longer Statsny remains unsigned, the worse things look for Colorado in my opinion. Functionally, UFA period hit today. If he decides to go back to Avs, it can be announced at any time. If he decides on elsewhere, it doesn't get announced until July 1. No news is good news... as long as you're not an Avs fan.

Dater listed Greene as a target, maybe Boyle.
Sakic and Roy say they have a UFA target list, wont add for the saking of adding anyone. The guy they want for the price they want him at has to match or they move on.

Personally I hope its Stralman

Hate to get off topic in an aves thread but Shattu looked pretty terrible on d last year. He was OK offensively but a major liability, especially in the playoffs. If we trade for Spezza in pretty much positive he is gone.
