Blues will try to sign him for 7 mil per or maybe he gives us a "hometown" discount. If that falls through well end up trading shatty and maybe Berglund or a pick for Spezza.

Probably north of 6.5m if he is leaving the Avs.

Flames can definitely afford that and more to overpay him!

I still see him signing with the avs. He made a boat load of money from the organization in the "down years" where he probably wasn't worth that much. I think Stastny wants to win and finish the job he started in Colorado. He's been here since college, I don't see him jumping ship right when our team is on the verge of something special.

Also, lets just sign ROR long term for 5.8m.

He just got done being in a rebuilding situation that lasted 5+ years. I don't see him going to another one....

For him to want to test the market and leave a great situation in Colorado...Paul must really want top dollar on the open market.

OR he just wants to see what's out there.

My guess is he wants the $$$.

I think he wants to stay in Denver but he is going to see what is out there in order to see if the avs will raise his salary a bit from what has already been offered to him. Essentially a "This is what I COULD make on another team, so you need to sweeten the deal a little bit for me to stay here" situation.

Flames are getting ready to back up the money truck for this guy, they seem to just love Centers from Colorado hahaha.... Stastny, Monahan, Backlund, Stajan down the middle next year.
- cmpdave

I hope so...they would regret it...sign him 7 yr 56mill. I'll laugh my ass off.

No one suggested that stupid of a deal except you. Enjoy Nikitin at 4.5... Makes Smid look like a steal!

Word on the street is Ottawa wants Schwartz, which I doubt would happen. Tarasenko could be just as deadly with Stastny as he would be with Spezza. I don't like the idea of sending Shatty somewhere. I think people also forget that a lot of teams would love to Leopold, who I don't think we need anymore because it's time to bring Cole up full-time.

Not really, he wants to win more than money from everything he has said to teh media over the last year. He also wants to resign in Colorado if it works out.

Listening to offers and testing the market are 2 different things. Until July 5th he is just listen. He hasnt tested the market yet, so until then I will hang onto hope he isnt goign to market

yea lol
for a 3rd pairing d-man pushed out of Columbus....was 7th in average time on ice for their defensemen
makes Wideman look like a steal! ROFL

Stastny is only 28...7 years only brings him to 35
I wouldn't mind trying for a 7 year deal...8per is a bit steep tho

all players are gonna say they "want to win"....you'd have poor character to say otherwise. But on the flip side, they will still say they want to be paid fairly.
in the end.... it's always about the money

I cant see Stastny leaving Colorado just to sign in a team that is not as far along in their "rebuild"...he just spent 4 seasons of team failures. If he doesnt resign, he will be goign to a team that is a contender now.

Going to a non playoff team or a rebuild just doesnt seem like right. Then he really doestn care abotu winning and wants only the cash. Thats doesnt seem like a player you want to invest in.

I'd rather see Stastny in a Blackhawk jersey than Kesler, but even if we dump Sharp's salary in a trade for picks and prospects, I'm not sure that they can afford to sign him.
Any idea how much his agent is looking to get?

- Dieselhead

Probably no less than what he is currently making. He deserves it, imo but you can't fault the front office for drawing a line in the sand.
I just hope he doesn't end up with StL.

Whats Russo talking about with the Wild are seriously interested in him, wouldnt you have to buy out Mikko if thats the case? Cant see tossing big money at stastny...seems like you would be sacrificing space to sign some of the young guns if you do

I don't think Shatty will be part of a deal for Spezza. Just read an article on Stltoday where he was talking about Shattenkirk's postseason, and how he had a talk with him about what is expected of him next year. Army said something to the effect of Shatty being very receptive. He went to say he thinks Shats will have a big year next year. I believe they think Shatty will a big part of the future in St. Louis.

Smid will never look like a steal. He's a plug.

But that said I've agreed 4.5 for Nikitin is way too much. Thank god its only 2 years.
Doesnt cripple us.

Ya but it's not about the "seem like right". What it is about, is COL offering likely around 5.5-6.25 for 4-5 years (obviously made up but if they were offering more than 6.25 I think he would sign right away) compared to a team that will offer 7-8 years (security) for 7-7.5 MM. You are talking massive differences in cash. $ talks for most guys, and 28 is hardly the "I NEED A CUP" age.

Thats probably in the ball park of what they are offering. But think of it this way.
A beloved Flame like Iggy (a little extremme but go with it) leaving at 28 isntead of resigning to stay with the Flames bc he wantes more security over a 5 year deal. Hes a fan favorite and the longest serving Avanache currently.

Sakic & Hejduk all did it the same way as well. They signed till they were 33-34 and then did the 1 year deals after that so they have the flexibility with money and roster spots. Its not a foreign concept in the organization.

I just cant see him turning his back on all that just to sign for max dollars for a team that is farther away from the cup than the Avs or his home town Blues. Sorry just no way he signs with the Flames

I don't doubt he wants Schwartz, but if he thinks its going to happen he's sniffing glue. I wouldn't trade Schwartz straight up for Spezza. If that is the kind of return they want, Spezza will be playing in Ottawa next year.

They have room to sign Vanek, why not Stastny? And I would be the least bit surprised to see Fletcher clear even more space with a trade or 2 in the near future (Koivu being a possibility). Mikko has far too much value to be bought out, I think.
I love Stastny, but I don't think he is exactly what the Wild needs right now.
