I wouldn't mind a veteran back there to help calm things down. I really like Lack and Markstrom has a lot of potential. The 2 of them together have very limited NHL experience. If it starts to go sideways, it could be a disaster.

Are there any consequences by trying to put Markstrom in Utica to start the season?

I'm fine with dbags, but those 2 are not good fits for the contracts they'll demand and likely eventually get.
- Nucker101

Meh, a dbag in net probably isn't the best thing in the locker room.

On a losing team, I agree. Most dbags are fine when the team is winning.

Benning must have a pretty good ball park figure of what he thinks the contract demand will look like though.

Sounds like, as mentioned, a lot of due diligence and getting a read on an ever changing market and dynamics, what is available - best pieces at what price and the price of 3rd and 4th choices.

I think we should draft Fleury at #6 - if one of the top 5 don't drop to 6th and if we don't get a good d prospect back in the Kesler trade.

That Gaborik term and money is a bit crazy, I guess they hope he retires if he starts sucking before the contract expires.

I will lose my sh!t if that happens. Gotta use these rare high picks to stockpile elite talents. Fleury is NOT an elite talent. He's just a solid safe pick.

The Vancouver Giants continue to search for a head coach to replace Don Hay, who was allowed to get out of his contract which had a year remaining and return to Kamloops where he now is head coach of the Blazers. . . . I am told that the Giants interviewed Glen Gulutzan on Tuesday. Gulutzan, a former head coach of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, is an assistant coach with the Vancouver Canucks. When Gulutzan was the head coach in Dallas, Willie Desjardins was an associate coach with the Stars. Desjardins signed as the Canucks’ head coach on Monday.

Gully is likely on his way out.

I think he could become a solid 2nd pairing dman. Not someone I'd take at #6, but at #10 I wouldn't call him a bad pick. Banning already said that picks #6 and #36 will be used on forwards.

Once you sign Hiller or Miller, Markstrom has to get traded or you'll lose him for nothing through waivers(I assume he'll get claimed, and knowing our history he'll go on to be a starter in this league).
- Nucker101

I believe if you send Markstrom down before the star of the season he doesn't have to clear waivers

I'd rather get Theodore back from the Ducks rather than draft Fleury. He's further along in his development. I'd probably take Virtanen at 6. His combination of speed, shot, and size would be well suited for our division.

If we acquire Pick #10, Benning should be on the phone trying to parlay that and one of our veteran D into Pick #2. Draisaitl & Ehlers w/ #2 & #6.

I'd rather hear about him spending his time figuring out how to maximize our draft haul... No thanks to Miller/Hiller... I'll take Bolland as a 3LC but then he's gotta go get us Draisaitl for 2LC (while keeping the 6th pick to take Ehlers).
- DrChristianTroy

Maybe Kesler and the draft is already in place.

Who would you like to see us pick if none of the top 5 drop? Virtanen?

I have only seen some of the mock drafts and little bios on players, just wondering who is left that could be classified as elite?

I don't think Buffalo would bite. If Draisaitl somehow fell to #5, Benning better be all over Snow.

I think so. There are always a lot of players in training camp on one way deals that end up in the AHL before the start of the year and I don't remember there being this big wavier wire fire sale.

...like Toews!

Why the f*ck would the Canucks agree to keep any salary?

- Marwood

We bought out Booth, so we have the space. $2.5M for the next 2 years would piss me off, but shouldn't actually be an issue. I would absolutely not bend on the return package though. It would have to be high.

If the Canucks are really going after Leddy, then my guess is Tanev (or one of the top 4) are on their way to Florida.

Leddy isn't good enough to be someone who a Kesler deal is centered around. He plays some of the easiest minutes on the Hawks team.

Ehlers. Everything about his skillset is elite in my eyes. Would be #1 overall material if not for questions about his size (which are irrelevant IMO).

Yeah, his speed, playmaking, and scoring ability is an exciting package. His dad played at around 185 pounds so I gotta think he can reach that weight for sure.
