before hitting the streets of Brooklyn explaining ice hockey to the residents.
- Dee Karl

What?? This isn't the Jets moving to AZ... I was in AZ when the Yotes got there & it was sad the things they had to do to teach people what hockey was.

Brooklyn is not some distant land that has never had a hockey team within 300 miles of them.. Brooklyn has had 3 teams with in 25 miles for decades and 1 team for over a century... so what exactly do the Brooklyn residents need to learn about the sport of hockey?

You're basically talking about snow and saying its hard to blame the GM during a rebuild. So, I'm saying how do you explain LA who took the cup and won 2 of the last three years under their GM Dean Lombardi. This is the same Dean Lomardi the isles interviewed but chose to go with backup goalie Garth Snow. So, I can blame the GM during this rebuild, when we're STILL talking about a 5th overall pick.

In response to your "what", I ask you the same. What? How can you not put the onus on the guy who's put this product on the ice for 7 years?

You're not going to convince LGI that Snow is bad at his job. He refuses to look at it objectively. He needs another decade of losing to convince him Snow is a bad GM. With Wang as owner, there is every reason in the world to expect that snow will have another decade on the job

BTW, the fact that Wang interviewed and passed on Lombardi, a guy who did well in SJ too, to hire Snow is a classic example of all that is wrong with Wang as an owner

100% accurate, however the record speaks for itself. With Wang owning this team, i dont see anything changing sadly.

Going to Brooklyn changes the dynamics of the franchise but the group remodeling the Coliseum is the same as the Brooklyn group so they will be playing some games in Nassau. Hockey these days is a TV sport as well so the new arena will fetch them some media coverage. Also know some hockey fans here in NYC who can't buy Ranger season tix but may opt for the Isles when they move here. Though many think they have the same fate as the Nets, hockey is a winter sport which does bring out the fans after the summer playgrounds close.

I always thought it was Lombardi that turned Wang down? I'm not sure though.

True. Wang probably told Lombardi about the committee idea and Lombardi told Wang forget it.

Could be true. I really don't know. But IF Wang passed on Lombardi for Snow, that was a royal mistake. And not just in hindsight. Lombardi had a good track record before getting to LA.

I always heard Lombardi turned down the job and then Smith and the committee were brought it. Cannot say 100% if this is true.

i still dont understand what lombardi has to do with snow...you are holding garth accountable because wang decided on snow?? and didnt lombardi say no to the islanders? how is garth even in this equation. this is a pure wang decision.

as for explaining the kings, i still dont understand how that comes into play but something tells me that if garth came into his position with guys like rob blake, dustin brown, anze kopitar, mike cammelari, jonathan quick, sean avery instead of guys like miro satan, alex yashin, radek martinek, jason blake, okposo, comeau, gervais, dipietro, the organization would be in much better shape than it is today.

This post is a horrible example.......the reason why the kings are relevant, is because lombardi brought either through trade or free agency, richards, carter, williams, stoll, scuderi, regehr, mitchell. All of whom were pivitol to their cups.

Who has snow brought in to compliment his draft picks?

from point blank:

This is not inside information, just merely setting the record straight. The Los Angeles Kings did not swoop in and hire Dean Lombardi while Charles Wang looked for a new Islanders general manager. For the record, Lombardi did not “nearly” become the Islanders general manager. It never came close.

Lombardi interviewed with the Islanders and was highly recommended by hockey people inside and outside the team, but he was never considered a serious candidate by Wang.

Do you know for a FACT that Wang offered the job to Lombardi? I don't. I'm betting you don't either.

Here you go LGI, maybe not "concrete" but certainly more supportive of my position on the quote you attempted to rip apart earlier. Have a nice day.

he'll still argue....bottom line, wang owning this team has crippled their chances of bringing in real NHL people....and Snow would not GM any other team

(x10000)

so youre telling me that having a conn smythe winner, a top line winger, a top line center, and a hall of fame defense is irrelevant?

jethro, what were you saying about being objective?

Not to get involved with this but you're pretty much proving his point. Lombardi bought those guys in via trade or FA. Something Snow has not been able to do. You just proved his point.

Rather obvious the franchise was passed by in terms of its major league status with the aging facility and fanbase but hopefully they are entering a new phase. Besides the fans, the players psyches are also affected when the team is mired in cost saving decisions but hopefully there is daylight. I still hate to see them trade away any more young talent or draft picks especially if dal Colle is the leader they say he is along with Reinhart hopefully.

Bailey is not as bad as they think but we already have a number 2 center in Nielsen. May be crazy but Nielsen is a more tradeable commodity to a team like the Blues or Sharks and could fetch a nice return.
