He was their 7th guy in terms of TOI/G. But he'll probably be a second pairing guy in Edmonton.

Can someone explain how this dude is worth 4.5 AAV and yet, we whine and female dog about Andrew MacDonald's contract?

I'm honestly interested in any answer that's not rooted in some weird fetish about how good someone was or was not in junior hockey (you know who you all are).

Just because a team paid him $4.5 doesnt mean he is worth $4.5, or will live up to that contract.

I think it's a combination of Oilers having a lot of money to spend and needing some added "veteran" defense.

5.8 Mil for Callahan. Cracked 50 points one time in his career.

So it seems more and more likely that Emery is gone. At the very least I think he's going to be hitting UFA to see what's out there.

I think Setoguchi could be a really solid acquisition... He has a ton of speed on the wing and can pot goals in bunches.. Its been a tough few seasons for him, but he is still young and his speed is still way above average.

Brennan is intriguing for a few reason.. One, he is a local kid. Two, I saw him at Ice Works not too long ago.. CRAZY shot. Three, I really think he could be a late bloomer. decent size, good skating, good offensive game... hopefully he can make a NHL career out of it..

- jak521

Yeah. Plus they are guys that if they play well can be kept around with the growing core as they both are young vets.

MacDonald is a year younger and more accomplished at the NHL level.

2 years at 4.5 AAV for a guy who barely played makes MacDonald seem underpaid.

I am ok with that. I want Thomas Griess or maybe Al Montoya. Not expensive but can still play 15 games if needed.

yEP. Great signing for TB and Stevie Y.

If it was Philly that made this deal the headlines would be Philly overpays for another grinder.

It's all about the narrative from certain sources that the Flyers sign bad deals and sign and acquire the wrong players.

There's never any guarantee that any player will live up to a contract no matter how big or small. NHL GM's and player agents know what the market is for players. It's really some of the fans who haven't kept pace.

If we need to point to this deal by the Oilers to make ourselves better accept the MaC deal, that's not a great sign.

I'd much rather have AMac.
Two yrs vs five is a factor in the contract though

Do you say this because nothing has been done with him yet, or is there something else?

Now that Schenn is signed I think they have to address the back up goalie.

Can't use that roster and maximize the LTIR cap space for Pronger due to the roster limit of 20 players.

How else do you want to view it other than by comparing it to other players' salaries signed around the same time period (to adjust for the cap/market)?
