i accept the diving in soccer because like Scott said, just part of the game. the thing i have issues with is how harsh penalties can be. Greece-IC is a great example. that's a vicious, vicious and undeserved way to exit the World Cup for Ivory Coast.

Actually, he didn't, based on where he came from and arrived in the box. He came from the side where it looks like there was no contact at all. Not from the side you posted.

yes it should be at the discretion of the ref if a penalty is warranted. a foul in the box should not be an auto penalty. if it is, make the penalty more difficult. was the same thing in the Brazil-Croatia game. i'm fine with deciding a game on penalties because that's 50-50 and if teams can't separate themselves after 120 (frank)ing minutes, that poop is a coin flip anyway. but games decided on late penalties are pretty harsh.

If he's 10 feet away (and he was more), then he has to walk the 10 feet to where the players are, in order to call the foul and place the ball on the spot and make hand gestures and be smelly. The place where he began the walk to do this, is on the side where the angle shows no contact.
