I'm not a huge fan of Phaneuf, but I think you're selling him a bit short. While he does have games like you described above, he also has games where he's very good. My issue with his game is that it can be wildly inconsistent. But he's made strides with that as well.
- HonkFortheGoose

Yeah you may be right with me selling him a bit short. Since he's been traded from Calgary I have gradually thought less and less of him.

hmmm...4 more years though...Is it worth the #17 pick? I'm not totally sold I guess.
- stashu

Can't we just stuff him on the minors and if anybody wants him they can claim him off waivers?

Understandable. If you can remove the "noise" of overvalue that some Toronto fans may have for him, you can see he's a top pairing type (in the definition I mentioned earlier). But that contract length is killer.

I'm definitely not a fan of his contract. Thank god it's not our problem.

Make Philly pay the signing bonus due this year. Then it's 4 years 14 mil owed.

Nope. He has a NMC. Plus, he would still count at 3.6 mil per season on our cap. I know we have the space, but I'd rather not have him making that much to play in Rochester.

It's not the salary, it's the term + cap hit. It's not horrible, but with his declining performance it sucks.

I think that comes with him. But if we could get the 17th pick we then have the ability to move up easier. Couldn't we just stuff vinny in a season or 2 in the minors like how we did with kotalik

He's still capable of putting up 50 points IMO.

He had a terrible year last year and still put 20 goals in.

No you can only stuff 900k of a players salary in the minors and he has a nmc.

Yeah that's not good. Depends on if they can move up cheaply from 17 to get a guy they really like. No point doing it for 17 alone especially if nobody u really want

Months have passed and I still have Miller pretty much pegged to SJ which hasn't changed. The idea behind it is Niemi is moved to a team like WPG.

Sabres room still has Reinhart as top guy on their list. FLA has 4 good offers for trade. VAN, EDM, TOR and WPG in no order. It's all about if they want Ekblad or not obviously.

Ennis deal I spoke of was 15mil/3 years. Ennis camp now wants a 4 year deal at 21.5 million.

Murray has no deal in place yet but had good talks with a few teams about moving into first round. SJ talks were the best. Obviously it depends on whose left but strong feeling is their first bet is Alex Tuch is he's there. If not still make the deal and pick Demko is all scouts agree that hip injuries are behind him.

There has also been thrown around the possibility of getting back into the first round and using that plus another player or pick to move up into top 10 to select Ehlers or Viratanen.

Also had talks with WPG around deal that sends Hodgson+ for Evander Kane

Yikes.

Could be an exciting few days coming up.

Do you do a Hoff + "not-31" 2nd rounder for Vinny + 17

Then trade 17+31+prospect(?) to get high enough to get Ehlers?

Not sure where he projects, just know lots of you folks who know draft classes better than me say he'll be a solid one.

I don't know a lot about him, but one of the things I did hear, is that he has a lot of the same skillset/qualities as Patty Kane.

So Sabres trade Ehrhoff, 31, 39, lets' say Kea for Vinny and Ehlers.

hm. That's a lot of coin for, let's face it, just Ehlers in 3 years.

So what's causing him to be drafted at 10 instead of say, 1-4.
