Nothing about the Tim Murray/Marcus Foligno connections tickles your fancy?

I'm just sayin, if there's a particular guy who is a good fit here. Identify him & make it happen. Chemistry is important.

No they moved him for Marc Methot.

Toronto is trying to distance themselves from phaneuf and his contract. Somebody should save them just like how Philly did with Luke schenn for jvr deal
- joshs

Watch Burke make the move for him.

They have plenty of space to sign ROR, Stastny, and Phaneuf if they wanted to. If they feel they are a Phaneuf away from really challenging for the cup, they have the space to do it over the next few years.

They are far from having cap issues. Hell in 2 years they have 50 mil in space.

- dadeadhead

Speaking of cap, how great is seeing a UFA status right next to leino's name.

I think Toronto is stuck. Shopping him around with kadri and gardiner and teams are still hesitant.

Murray was part of management that got rid of him, i doubt he brings him here.
- Mentalorgasm5

I believe Tim Murray was part of the management that drafted Foligno back in 06-07.

Maybe that was Unkie Brian.

And ROR may very well be testing the UFA waters if this thing goes to arbitration. There's the MacKinnon money.

I wouldn't be worried if I were them. Phanuef can help them on the back end if they feel he's their guy.

Dude eats minutes and on that offensive team will put up really good offensive numbers. And no offense to Jan Hejda but he's a big upgrade over him.

Colorado is smart. They can get a guy who's pretty good at d to help them now. Has a friendly contract that still has 2-3 years on it. Gives them flexibility to make other moves or keep team somewhat as is, with raises ofcourse.

It's him that decides on the 1 or 2 year length right? Will he (finally) be a UFA no matter the term?

They don't need pretty good though.

Say what you want about Phaneuf, he's still a 1-2 d-man and that's what they need. I'm not saying they should go for him, just if they feel so inclined they can afford him.

He's a 3-4 who is unfortunately being paid like a #1 or 2.

1-2 needs to be a lot better in his own end (far more consistently) than Phaneuf is.

Only after if it's a 2 yr award.

Why go after a one yr award only to go through all this sh!t for the 3rd year in a row?

He'll get north of 5 mil per in his arbitration case.

Nah, one of the 1/2 guys needs to be solid in his own end. If the other is producing points as a top d-man in the league (as Phaneuf does), then it's still a solid top end guy.

If phaneuf made 7.5 mill a year for the next 3 years he would be more attractive of a player than 6 mores years of 6.5 Its the never ending contract to a dman that's not really known for his defense.

Phaneuf to Col for their 1st in 2014, PAP, 2nd in 15, B level prospect.

The issue I've seen with Phaneuf, is that while he has the talent to be a 1-2, he has games where he probably should be the 7 as well. There's quite a bit of inconsistency to his game considering how long he's been in the league.

It's gotten a bit better though.

I wasn't sure what happens if he chose 1 year, if somehow he gets out of RFA status or not from the arbitration mess. Sucks to go through all these crazy offseasons and still be 2 more years from "normal" contracts

Not many legit #1 defenders in the league. Phaneufs is a 2nd pairing dman that is great on the pp.

I don't see the issue.

They've stock piled assets.

Time to make the move to play with the big boys. Weather Phaneuf is the right move remains to be seen.

31 pts doesn't exactly scream top producing point man, and you'd like to see more consistency out of a guy who's getting paid as much as he is.
