The way I see it, we upgraded our D core by taking what looks to be a NHL 4-5-6 in McNabb and replacing him with a NHL 1-2-3 defenseman. That leaves us with the ability to trade. What. Ruhwedel?

Myers (Meyers), Risto, Zadorov, McCabe, Pysyk, Ekblad, Ehrhoff, Weber, Ruhwedel. The defensive depth cliff dives after those names. I suppose you have room to trade Ruhwedel. What are you going to get? Sure as poop not a first or a top center.

- TheSabresTaco

Edm needs a d-man, & the people in thems parts are very familiar with former Oil King captain Mark Pysyk...

Reinsdorf bought the Bulls for 15 mil in 1985. If a team that has won nothing in its history just sold for 2 billion, the Bulls gotta be worth at least 3-4 billion right?

Even though TM says he'll draft him, I smell smokescreen. TM will most likely dangle that pick if Ekblad is available when we pick. No way he doesn't at least attempt to trade it.
- IceColdBeer

I'm with you. If Ekblad doesn't go #1, TM is fielding a TON of calls for that pick.

you keep ruhwedel for your 7th spot and trade one of ehrhoff, pysyk, mccabe or zads imo
- IndianaSabresFan

I can see McCabe becoming an Ehrhoff type. Also, it's blatently obvious the defense needs a vet leader, so include him as well. If Zadorov delivers us someone named Malkin, Duchene, Seguin, Backstrom, Giroux or Courture, that's a trigger I'm willing to pull.

Why would a cap strapped team want phaneufs contract? RoR is a good player but not worth #2 overall.
- joshs

You do know Colorado has 18 players signed for next year and 23 mil in cap space right?

Colorado badly want to improve their defense.

I suspect you could see them try to swap Patenteau in any deal for Phaneuf to she'd some $$$. It also remains to be seen as to what happens with Stastny.

And btw, I wasn't suggesting trading the #2 pick for ROR, i was saying to package Ehrhoff for him. I was suggesting using that pick to draft Ekblad should Vancouver trade up for Reinhart.

I don't think those 3 get the #3 pick, let alone that AND Gagner

If Ekblad drops past 1, I would do that trade. Not bad, Cat.

Common misconception.

They need centers in a bad bad way and I want nothing to do with Sam "40 point" Gagner.

This. They have Nurse, Marincin, and Klefbom already coming up.

They want Draisaitl IMO.

I believe Pysyk and CoHo were both Top 10 picks, they have pretty good pedigrees in their own right.

I think they would both do well to accelerate the timeline in Edm.

Which is why I'm all for drafting 1 or even 2 in the 2nd round (Where you find a lot of star defensemen anyways)

If we take Ekblad with our pick......Epic fail IMO. Myers nor Ehrhoff are netting you a bonafide #1 center which is what any of the 3 have the potrential to be.

More and more people are coming to the opinion that Ekblad is not a franchise player. He looks to have the same potential as Ristolainen or Myers.

Taking him is a lateral move IMO any which way you slice it.

I think if they were drafting #1, Edm would be a lock to take Ekblad.

Highly disagree.

and Gagner for Hodgson would be a wash, so your proposal is essentially Pysyk and a 2nd for the 3rd overall. I don't think that happens.

Not a chance. The only reason why they're talking up Draisatil is because he's something different from what they have currently. Not because they're hurting for scoring.

Hehe, let em keep Gagner then. But I prefer CoHo to Gagner myself.
