What happens when it goes bennet, then ekblad?

Then we thank Edm for whatever they gave us to move up and then we take Reinhart/Draisaitl.

Why in gods name would we give up 3 high second round picks to get back into the first round when the going price is typically two second rounders.....

Crazy.

The first sentence in the post above might be the most confusing I've read on hockeybuzz yet...

- bjm1717

Why did the bills give up a 9th and 1st to get to 4?

Why all this maneuvering with trades?

Just offer 31, 39 and 49 if you feel the need to give all our 2nd's away to get back into the first.

IMO, you give more, you'll move up further.

I am a believer of manipulating where you pick, based on who you want. I'd rather move back in the draft than reaching on a player. And if Bennett goes 1st, the Sabres could find themselves in an interesting position.

As long as the guy we want is guaranteed somehow to be there at 4.

But i'd rather trade a couple picks and a roster player and move even further back up into the first. Keep a 2nd, and package a player and a pick or two. Let's go big, or go home!

My guy is still Reinhart, but Draisaitl is just so intriguing. I almost wish FLA picks Reinhart so we can get him.

Idk...

4 of the consensus "Top 5" picks are Canadian, and with 2nd overall we're gonna select a German?

I'll admit that it's a bit stereotypical, but theres a superstitious, old school, purist section of my gut that says thats a bad idea in general principle.

Trade with Calgary to four, for pick 2 and a 4th for pick 4 and pick 34?

Trade 31, 34 and 39 to get back into the first.

Wonder what NYI would want for the 5th overall pick?

Cody Hodgson & a 2nd rd'er for #5 overall?

DelColle or Nick Ritchie would be interesting fits with say.. a Girgensons/Reinhart combo. Girgensons/Bennett/Ritchie??

Prob have to say Reinhart/DelColle or Bennett/Ritchie would be good combos to pair with Girgensons...

Reinhart gets the sniper, & Bennett gets the enforcer.

I'm not trading nyi anything to help them out now
I want their 2015 pick to be as good as possible

But maybe there's something even that.

The criticism of Jager was that if you we're physical, you could make him quit. This was part of his exit of the NYR.

Perhaps his "gun-for-hire" approach may be a reflection of a me first additude as well?

Of course, maybe it means nothing. But somehow it always seems like the best players come from Canada.

Maybe
Tough to say a guy with Jagr's success & longevity has an attitude problem
But regardless, I brought him up bc that's who Draisaitl is being compared to as far as style of play goes
And I wouldn't just pass on a Euro bc he isn't N.American
I'd take that on a case by case basis
Haven't heard attitude as an issue for draisaitl

This is true. But wouldn't it be sweet to have both of their picks?

Jagr had 319 points in 277 games as a Ranger.

Seems like he's got a great attitude, very down to earth. Looks a lot like Vanek too.

But then again, look at all the criticism Vanek took from MTL fans in the playoffs.

Could Drisatil's down performance in the Worlds be similar foreshadowing?

Miro Satan had 40 goals in a single season as a Sabre...

It didn't make him a great captain though.

We've seen it all before. I'll take my chances on a Canadian kid.

I don't get the correlation.

Jagr was phenomenal, he never needed to be a good captain. If Draisaitl is anything close to Jagr he should be our pick.

Yup comparing Satan and Jagr is a legit comparison.

Jagr, perhaps a top 20 player of all time, and you wouldn't want him cause he isn't Canadian.
