So what do we think about a Schenn-G-Simmonds line?

I feel meh about it.

I just don't know what to do with the top 6. I am a proponent of splitting Jake and G up but the absence of Hartsy now makes that pretty tough to navigate.

Now you move Couturier to lw with Giroux and Voracek. Couter and Roos still kill penalties. RJ can now anchor the #3 center shutdown spot. Couter is too good to have his offensive side saddled as a shutdown center. If you do not give him that opportunity soon he will think he is a shutdown center and not grow into an expanded role. Now is the time, hopefully that is what Hextall is thinking.

Dude RJ hasn't played center since the last time he was a Flyer. Coots gets 20 mins a night with 20 goal wingers and secondary PP time. Just cause he's on the "3rd line" doesn't mean he's being played like a 3rd liner.

I like Jake-G-Simmer. Schenn is Simmer-lite and we need his grit on that top line. Hartnell was the grit before, now Simmer should get his shot on top. Jake and G have too much chemistry to break up.

Ok so I don't really get the Hartnell for RJ trade. There has to be more coming. I guess the Flyers get a player that can play in more positions, has less time on his contract and gets less penalties. But if RJ was a healthy scratch for parts of last year what makes the Flyers think he will fit in on this team? I guess I have two real questions; 1. How did they get Hartnell to waive his NTC or NMC 2. Where does RJ fit in the lineup?

That could be a nasty 1st line.
Problem is, with Jakub being that good with puck possession and his speed on the attack, you take away minutes putting him on the 2nd line and away from Giroux.
But who knows really.

Last season everyone was female doging about a potential line of :
Hartnell - B. Schenn - Simmonds .. since harsty and simmer were the same type player. That line kicked major ass and was our best line for a few weeks last year. Chemistry and fit is a funny thing and you never really know unless you try it. Problem is, with young guys like Coots and B. Schenn, let them settle and give them time to find an identity. Too much switching around with the youngsters IMO.

The only thing I have to say is for heaven's sake decide if B Schenn is a Winger or a Center, and leave him there all season.

Interesting trade for sure has really created some interesting choices up front....what's clear is that Hextall viewed the Hartnell signing as a mistake......wonder if he views Vinny's deal the same way? Another mistake or big misjudgment ? If indeed Hextall values speed then I wonder if that includes his two slow footed D men....Schenn and Grossman ....just wondering ?

Winner winner

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Brayden Schenn's new two year deal with PHI pays him $2.25M and $2.75M for an AAV of $2.5M.

Hartnell should have been a healthy scratch early in the season.....

I guess you can say G should have also. Not saying I mind that Hartnell got traded, just not sure how this will all work out because there has to be more to this. Does B Schenn move up or Simmonds?

G was snake bitten for a lot of the early games....his effort was there....Hartnell was invisible. As far as who moves up to that spot ? Who knows? Perhaps we will see more house cleaning for Hextalls new direction.

Current Cap space : 1.8 M
Pronger LTIR : 4.9m
Vinny for a pick: 4.5M

Total potential space = 11.2M

Minus :
Akeson 900k ?
Backup goalie 1.4M ?
Bellamare 600k
Laughton 800K

Potential space = 7.5 M

Kind of hoping the Flyers can still make a big splash at the draft. I'm not expecting them to clear a whole lot of cap room, if any. But if they can find a way to move up to 6 or 7 and nab Richie I would be ecstatic.

You're almost certainly going to have to take back a contract when dealing Vinny imo.

I don't think so, he was playing hurt all season and went from center to LW to RW to the 4th line.

Toronto 4th pick for Vinny (if he waves the NTC = done)

Problem is Homer with his lifetime marriage proposals to UFA'S

After Lecavalier was bought out he had better offers then the 4.5M per by Philly. Why would that team (who needs a center who offered more money to him) wouldn't want him for a late pick and Philly retaining 1M, so Vinny at 3.5M.

Very probable, only problem is Vinny accepting the destination, again Homer doing his groceries starving

Other huge problem is the number of centers available this summer. Jason Spezza, Brad Richards, Paul Statsny, Joe Thornton...all are a lot more appealing than Vinny.

Vinny would be the low cost option there asset wise. BRichards aside of course.

Sure, but the others are all better, Stastny is a UFA as well, and I forgot Kesler.

True that and I agree...

Thing is CBO players tend to sign for less money but besides Brad Richards, you have to trade for Spezza and Thornton and pay ufa $ for Statsny...

A 3rd Rounder or 4th even for Lecavalier a 3.5M (ex: philly retaining 1M salary)without losing really valuable prospects or picks is somewhat appealing.

For Spezza, Thornton, how much to the GM's want ???? a lot

Statsny ufa, is what 6.5M long term ?

VL and the 17th pick to MTL for the 26th and a 4th rounder. Heck if they take the whole contract I'd flip the picks straight up. Its worth dropping down 9 spots to unload that contract
