Does getting a plan and sticking too it, mean never making a trade?
- MJL

No.

We can disagree no worries. If they were looking to trade Scott, I would have liked to see them wait a bit instead of rush to make the deal.

They got jack poop and took on a bad contract. If that's his value around the league so be it I guess.

No, but it was so rational and positive

wow good guess

lucky guess

I was really hoping for a 2 year bridge deal, I just think they are the way to go with these young guys who haven't hit their potential.

Like what they gave Couts.

Really like the deal. Solid.

Vinnie would be gone yesterday but they can't find a taker.

Streit and Amac will be here until the D prospects are ready, at least 3 years.

- Marc D

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see LeCavalier stay.

Who would trade for that? We will see.

I am, and have been pro proper organic rebuild for a while. Just have to hope you have some good healthy years of G left at the end.

Extremely. It's best for both sides too. Schenn has two years to cash in and te flyers have two more years of an affordable deal to see if he pans out the way they hope. Good bridge deal.
- funmaster18

Is he still RFA after two years?

edit: Capgeek says yes!

I like it even more now.

No worries with that.

I could see Hextall trying to clean up a big of the mess Holmgren made with the overpayments.

The last two bigger deals I am just not a fan of. The JVR/Luke Schenn speaks for itself. I can live with dumping Hartnell, but Umberger is shot from what I have seen. Hate taking on that contract.

Really do wonder if they are going to go with a full frontal youth movement. I've been beating that drum for a while.

Any idea why a Pro Hockey team with professional Pro scouts, and an experienced GM such as Hextall, would trade for a shot player?

No idea. Same reasons why a genius GM trades JVR for Luke Schenn.

You could trade for someone else's Scott Hartnell for VL and a fourth.

If you're going to look at what both players are paid, and their cap hits. Then you have to consider what the situation was when they signed the deal.
- MJL

Why? Who cares why they were signed? What I care about is what they offer to my team and what I would have to give up or could get for moving them. In this case, I do not think we got near enough. Making us a weaker team. Even if RJ works better for us, Hartnell was worth more. It's like trading a sports car for an SUV cause you just had your first kid. The SUV might fit your needs better, but the Sports car is worth more. I'm saying we left money on the table.

I am completely OK with RJ and his contract. It's shorter and didn't they get a pick as well?

If Luke playes a full season like he finished the year with AMac, would it be easier to stomach?

May seem to be. I am okay with that. Okay with a few bad years, of letting the kids grow and having a bigger opportunity to bring in elite talent to this team via draft.

Only one I care about would be Giroux. Have all the respect for that guy, hope he doesn't become the next Spezza, and has some healthy good years left when they are competing hard again.

Who knows what happens, but what I am seeing from Hex seems to say big youth movement.

With that logic no bad trade would ever be made and we know that isn't true. Be nice to people, it's funner and stuff.

So based on your needs, wouldnt the conundrum here be that need trumps worth?

If the answer is no, they why the statement about sticking to a plan? How does trading Hartnell mean that they aren't sticking to a plan?

What makes you think that they rushed to make the deal? Who knows how many internal meetings they had discussing this. Or how many teams Hextall talked to about Hartnell.

They didn't get jack poop. They got an NHL player in return. And I don't see why it's a bad contract. I can understand not liking the deal. But it's the hyperbole of he's a shot player and he sucks that is puzzling.

The fourth is kind of meh.

I think Luke is kind of a turd and if it wasn't for Grossmann's injury history Id rather keep him. Just me. Nutter me crazy.

I am very curious to see what the rest of the summer holds for this organization. A lot of changes in recent years.

You think they were lining up for him, with that contract?

If both players score 20 next year, then who won?
Umberger kills penalties, plays all 3 positions.
I agree if Hart's was coming off the 37 goal year, (last year), but he wasn't.

Edit: Some are acting like "we threw him away for nothing", I don't see that, I am only perplexed that he wasn't traded for a defenseman, but maybe there was no deal for our greatest need.
