One step back to take two steps forward... apparently everybody's on board with that until it actually happens.

I'm fine with it; just don't trade the kids or the one NHL defenseman we have who can skate at plus-level

It's not a good trade. Not trying to defend it, removing emotion and looking at it with logic. The Jackets get a better player with a worse contract. The Flyers get a guy who gives them more flexibility.

Hartnell had a full NMC, Umberger a limited NTC. Hartnell controlled every aspect of where he could go.

- Jsaquella

Fair.

I'm am fired up over it, enough to post for the first time in nearly a year on this site so perhaps I jus need to sleep on it.

What theories are swirling as to why Hartnell would ask for a trade, is anyone thinking he asked to go to CBJ? That story may take years to come out unfortunately.

How does this set us up "better" for an additional trade?

Yes, we just gained $.15M. What else?

He had no shot this year, not with Modano, Forsberg, and Hasek. He'll get in with a weaker class.

Rob Blake got in. Recchi deserved it more than him. So did Lindros

No, I watched 20 minutes (plus whatever arbitrary extra time the referee's dart falls on) and the USA deserved to lose that game. One, they start faking injuries when they should be running out the clock. Two, they let (frank) Face run uncontested down the side line. Three, the 5 men in the box decide to let a guy dance past them into prime scoring position.

(frank)ing a right. It's deals like this that need to go down to get the flyers pointed in the right direction 3 years from now. Everyone needs to suck it up.

From THN on the Hartnell/Umberger trade:

All this does is reinforce the notion that, thanks in part to the perpetual impatience of owner Ed Snider, the Flyers won’t succeed at the league’s highest levels because their key components are never allowed to settle in for too long. Players such as Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, Sergei Bobrovsky and others have been deemed not good enough for that organization, yet found success relatively quickly once they moved on. You can make the case that, individually, there were good reasons for dealing each of the players they’ve dealt. But when you look at the larger picture, you see a franchise suffering from a horrendous case of restless leg syndrome.

It doesn't take into account a 6-4 win by Germany over USA.

What if it's B.Schenn, Coburn, our 1rst and our newly acquired 4rth for Subban? Do you pull the trigger?

It is possible they want to put Simmonds on the first to play the net in front of Giroux/Jake and help police the liberties taken against them.

Then they can do a Schenn, Raffl and possibly Laughton Line 2. Read/Coots/umburger #3

- juiced

Id like Simmonds for sure on that line

I agree. Everyone is ok talking about taking maybe a step back then when the move actually happens it is stupid. WE shouldn't be shocked. We knew Hextalls plan and we know what Berube wants out of the team. If you actually read what they said and then looked at the players you can see why the move was made.

I think we would still be able to sign a LW after that so yes if that's the case

The story is he really didn't get along with Berube.

Maybe the best thing is that it's a harbinger that undisciplined and careless play will not be tolerated, even if the guy is a team leader.
