This was a bad trade. Even if Hartnell wanted out they could have gotten more. R.J. Umberger! So we traded for Max Talbot? Swing and a miss Hextall, if they trade Schenn for Paneuf I'll be right pissed off.

Do you guys think you flip RJ to a team with a compliance buyout? Im just kind of shocked by this move.

Obviously, Hextall prefers to build his team with this:

and not with this:

We want change but when change happens it seems like we are scared of the unknown. We complain about the penalties, Hartnell average 100min per season, Umberger 53min. So it seems like Hextall is trying to change this team. Also by Berubes comments the words that come up are Skating and Versatile. i think they want more options then a guy who was strictly limited to either top 2 lines or PP. Lets see what happens. We have a new system and maybe instead of trying to put square pegs in round holes they are looking for the right players to fit it.

I think people over value what Hartnell could bring back in value, Good player but with 5 years of that deal it would be scary for any team to take and give us anything of an asset...We need to be a bit more realistic

Flyers have no more compliance buyouts left and they'd need to part with a first or second rounder for another team like buffalo to buy him out.

Hexy had already lauded umbergers versatility and two way play.

Speed, PK ability, versatility, and cap flexibility why Umberger makes sense for Flyers per Hexy via Sam Carchidi Twitter quotes

Makes sense. Hartnell did not have the wheels to keep up with Giroux and Voracek. I thought Brayden Schenn and Michael Raffl both looked fine in limited time on that top LW spot.

4.6 million per for the next 3 seasons for a player that was a playoff healthy scratch.
- PLindbergh31

Healthy?

R.J. Umberger revealed that he played through a broken finger, separated shoulder and herniated disc during the Jackets' first round playoff series with Pittsburgh.

So did anyone else hear Craig Button call Scott Laughton Peter Forsberg light last night on NHL Tonight? He said he's ready for the NHL this season. He also said Morin is improving by leaps and bounds and is fast tracking towards an NHL job.

James Mirtle tweeted that rumors are swirling that Hartnell requested the trade
- Jsaquella

There are always things behind the scenes that we'll never know...sometimes, stuff happens or are said within the team dynamic that makes guys want to move on.

I'll miss Hartnell, for the good things he did. But I can't judge this deal yet. Umberger didn't get along with that coach, at all. That wears on players. If he and Berube connect, perhaps we get a player who is motivated to be in a new setting and has performed well in Philadelphia.

And, TBH...i thought Umberger was headed back here. Just had a feeling
