thats a bold prediction
- arichardson22

Very..

People need to realize that posted respectable 3rd line numbers last season.

I was hoping for a bit more pizzazz for Couts on the wing, but a group of Umberger-Couts-Raffl/Read is a pretty solid defensive line that can still put up offensive numbers.

This kind of reminds me of the Gagne trade......

- Trading a fan favorite and player that bleeds orange and black (check)
- Supposedly trading for cap relief only to be getting a player who is making almost the same amount of money (Check)
- poopty and under market return (Check)

And just like the Gagne trade, I'm stuck here saying whats the point. You got rid of a player that fans love for nothing great in return and I would argue even more of a problem. If they wanted cap relief then just trade him for picks and a prospect and call it a day. Umberger doesn't fill any of the holes we needed filled, his cap sucks and with Hartnell gone, we have one bigger hole that needs to be filled.

disappointed.....

Hartnell would be demoted from the 1st to 2nd line. Umberger was demoted from the 4th to scratch line.
- PhillySportsGuy

and i feel he probably would have drug that line down a good deal as well.

yeah. taking back umberger at his rate is a little puzzling. maybe they know something i dont. id at least have waited to see if he was bought out and then pursue it that way.

the trade would look better from a flyers perspective if it was just the fourth coming back. but still, overall, the net gain tilts in the flyers direction to me.

When Umberger is playing RW on our 4th line and Hartnell is putting up 60 points with Johansson, remember this moment.
- PhillySportsGuy

60 points? So you think Hartnell will equal his second most productive season playing with Johansson. Bold, my friend, bold.

Still need to move Vinny and get Schenn to play on G's wing.
outside side of moving Schenn and picks for a better D, I would think they are done after moving Vinny.

He wont put up numbers with any of their other centers. It's a good move for them too.
- hereticpride

He was very productive with Schenn and Simmonds.

Anyone but hartnell? Sarcasm aside, I don't know who they will put up there or f they will acquire someone to play there, but hartnell was holding that line back, IMO.

6/23 = 4/20

Side note: 4/20 is actually my son's birthday. I got a lot of funny looks when I tell people that. I always have to explain that it's not code for anything....it is the actual birthday of my offspring.

- PhillySportsGuy

Goals-wise, I think they're a wash. Umby's a pretty steady shooter, and in the past, he used to get a pretty high volume of shots off, too. I think he'll hover around 15-20 goals here for the foreseeable future, without bringing a lot of the same potential negatives that Hartnell does on the ice (penalties, careless turnovers, careless NZ and DZ play).

As for possession... I don't think anybody who watches Hartsy would consider him much of a guy who takes good care of the puck. He's a nice complement to better players, but as long as those better players are still here, I think other guys could potentially do more in that role: Simmonds.

I can see him having a statistically similar year to this past season. The thing that surprises me the most is that they moved him within the division.

People are gonna HATE him next year.

Hartnell can be annoying, but, by the end of the season, he always puts up good numbers and finds his way onto the top PP and the top line.

Yea... lets trade our top D-man for a winger and then, ya know, see what we can get on defense.

With Columbus' roster he isn't going t put up 60 points anywhere other than their top line.
